Is It Time to Scrap the Table Scraps?

You love your dog, and you hate to waste food. Right away there's a quandary. What to do with those table scraps whilst there's nevertheless some decent meat upon that bone, or the macaroni-and-cheese leftovers aren't enough to create another meal? Fido's one of the family unit, and for certain would appreciate a mouthful of what was on the dinner table. Indeed what's the harm in allowing pooch, and not the electric pig, dispose of the table scraps rather than eat 'traditional' domestic dog food?

Table food waste

Table food waste shouldn't be the primary source of dietary consumption for your dog but might be fed as little treats here and there. Harmful table scraps like chocolate and bones, nevertheless, can cause extensive trauma and even death to your pet. Digestive troubles do come about once dogs consume table scraps that are too rich or that merely don't agree with their bellies. Be wary of what table scraps you permit your dog to accept and never overdo it.

But, you say, Baby Buster will not eat dog food. Goodness me really? And so what does Baby Buster eat? You got it, table scraps and anything else it desires. Has the dog actually succeeded in training YOU to give it what IT wishes? And has its success meant that the dog is paying a physical price for its "victory?" Hard not to overeat when you're getting the "select" goodies isn't it? Remember this, it is NOT up to the DOG to choose what it eats in your house - it is up to YOU - the owner.

Table scraps, fed in modest measures, DO have their good points. There is a tremendous difference between good quality leftovers and "scraps". The choice leftovers are the bits of steak (trimmed of fat), beef roast, chicken or turkey. Supplying this to your dog's bowl is alright, only if executed IN MODERATION. Additionally left over pasta and rice are OK, so long as it is without the butter or additional fatty sauces and are plain cooked.

Do not overfeed scraps on an uninterrupted basis. Your doing so will impart your pet to a diet laden with fat and you'll wind up with a dog prone to upset stomach, diarrhoea and other possibly life-threatening gastrointestinal disorders such as pancreatitis, which is life endangering. Even if your dog's digestive tract can handle a diet full of table scraps, the risks of him or her putting on weight will step-up tremendously in proportion to the quantity of scraps you are giving.

Nowadays, there are numerous folks who will claim that table scraps are deadly to your dog and shouldn't be fed as snacks. These people are only partly right. Although commercial snacks are developed for the needs of your dog, there's no harm in reserving your pet a few table scraps as long as it is not injurious to the pet and isn't in excess. There are human foods that are harmful and deadly to your dog, but most human food is utterly satisfactory for dogs. The trick is research.

You should forget, for instance, about dishing up your dog the left over macaroni and cheese, even though pasta is fine and the cheese is low-fat. Dogs do not have the required lactase to disperse the lactose the final result can be diarrhoea.

Turkey, chicken, steak, or any other sort of cooked bones are no-nos, since they can splinter and pierce or block the dog's digestive tract.. Bones may also cut the roof of the mouth.

Leftover stew is good, as long as you first toss away the onions, and if your family unit enjoys sushi, Buster will have to pass, uncooked fish can produce a thiamine lack in dogs. As an outcome the dog will suffer from seizures and maybe death.

Easily digestible foods such as cooked rice or chicken and turkey (boneless) will be okay to feed your dog. Even a few fruits and veggies are well received by dogs, although there are some kinds to avoid such as grapes. Giving your dog grapes induces terrible kidney harm. Although some fruits are acceptable to feed your pet, avoid grapes at all times.

Fido, or Baby Buster, or Sport recognises all the moves when if comes to wangling you out of those scraps. So do not let mealtime deviate into a conflict of wills. Recognise what are satisfactory table scraps, and give them in satisfactory quantities, only never choose to save money and avoid wasting food by making them the primary ingredients in your pet's diet!
