Tablet for Kids

Tablet for Kids is one of the best selling toys this year. Retailers are struggling to keep tablets for kids in stock, underestimating the demand for these popular toys. InnoTab vs LeapPad is a hot topic for discussion these days. Kids start asking for their own Ipads at preschool age. And parents who are not willing to spend $550 on IPads do have plenty of options. If Tablet for Kids is on your Shopping list, you have come to the right place. We will help you pick out the right tablet for your child by pointing out the differences and similarities in kids tablets. We also have the perfect Tablet for older kids that is not being marketed as tablet for kids, but is a great substitute for Ipad.

What is a kids tablet?

Tablet for kids is an educational toy with touch screen and preloaded apps and games. Currently tablets for kids are manufactured by 3 different companies: VTech, LeapFrog, and Vinci. Please note that the tablets are Toys - they do not have WiFi and can't be used as computers. Apple does not make Ipads for kids. InnoTab and LeapPad are the most popular tablets designed for kids ages 4 to 9 (LeapFrog recommends their tablet for 4 to 8 year olds). Vinci is a tablet for kids up to age 4. For kids ages 8, 9, 10 and up, I would recommend Kindle Fire Tablet - although it's not specifically designed for kids - it's a great option if you are looking for an Ipad-like tablet with Wi-Fi for kids.

LeapPad Explorer

LeapPad Explorer is an educational kids tablet manufactured by LeapFrog. LeapPad has a built-in camera and video recorder, pre-installed apps, and a big library of apps and games available for purchase. Children can use a finger, a stylus, or "turn, twist and shake the tablet for exciting motion-based play!" Great product with excellent parent reviews.

Tablet for Kids ages 4 to 9 years old

InnoTab Tablet

InnoTab Tablet is manufactured by VTech and in many ways is similar to LeapPad. The main difference between LeapPad and InnoTab tablet is that InnoTab does not have a camera but does have an MP3 music player and a video player. It also has an SD card slot for memory expansion, so you child can watch movies and videos stored on the SD card. LeapPad only plays videos recorded on the device or downloaded from the LeapPad library.

Tablet for Older Kids and Adults

This is the tablet I recommend for kids ages 7 and up. Although it is almost twice the price of a LeapPad or InnoTab, this Tablet will save you money in the long run. Free apps, free books, built in MP3 player, and the charger (included with Kindle Fire) make this tablet a great investment (when compared to the money you are likely to spend on Leappad and Innotab games and accessories). And, if you don't have a tablet of your own, you will want to borrow this tablet every once in a while. Excellent buy! I know several 8 year old kids who have Kindle Fire, and they absolutely love it.

Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi

Amazon Price: $199.00 (as of 06/03/2012)Buy Now

Works with private and public wi-fi networks, huge library of Apps, fast web browsing, 8 GB internal memory, USB port. May be a great tablet for kids ages 8, 9, 10 years old and older, if you are not ready to spend $550+ on the Ipad they have been asking for :) I own a Kindle Fire and absolutely love the ease of use of the device. Older kids will appreciate the great music player on Kindle Fire - the sound is excellent and you can buy and download full albums from Amazon in minutes.
