Tagfoot Mentors: Your Guides in the Clouds

Ranked #6,476 in Squidoo Community, #396,172 overall

What Can A Tagfoot Mentor Do For You?

Tagfoot is a social bookmarking site with the emphasis on social. When you join the Tagfoot community, you'll learn to tag yourself so others who have the same interests you do can find you. You'll also learn how to find others who have tagged themselves in ways that interest you.

During the first few months I've been a member at Tagfoot, I've met many, many Squidoo Lensmasters and shared my lenses with them. They've shared theirs with me. We've visited and rated each others' lenses. In some cases, we've added each others lenses to our favorites and joined each others' fan clubs.

This is all possible because as Tagfoot members, we each create a "cloud" of tags related to our selves, our bookmarks, and our shares. This is really quite easy to do when you've been shown the steps. That's where a Tagfoot Mentor is helpful.

Along the way, your mentor will be available to view your Tagfoot profile, your bookmarks, and the other great stuff you collect on Tagfoot. For example, if you like humorous, like my friend Debnet does, you'll save and share bookmarks that are humorous.

Now, I watch for her shares, make sure to open them when she sends them, and have fun laughing at them. Then she, other Tagfoot folks, and I get to leave comments for each other, share more and the fun never stops.

But the good news doesnt stop with you having your very own tag cloud, simplifying the way you store your bookmarks, and making friends.

You also can make money by signing up for Google Adsense. That way, the visitors to your profile, your shares, your bookmarks, and the other neat stuff you save on Tagfoot, will see ads related to your bookmarks...automatically.

Ohhhh. This is beautiful. You can even create your own Amazon wishlist on Tagfoot, share your wish list in your very own Tagfoot widget on your own Squidoo Lenses or blog pages. In fact, you can even Tweet items you have for sale right from inside the Tagfoot site.

It get's even better. The more you use Tagfoot, the more you learn from those who follow your footsteps.

What can a Tagfoot Mentor do for you?

Your Tagfoot Mentor can guide you through the steps it takes to learn how to navigate Tagfoot, use the neat features described above, and even more.

Who are the Tagfoot Mentors? They're people you can trust. You'll see them listed further down this page.

Later in this lens, I explain what you need to do to become a Tagfoot member.

Are all Tagfoot Mentors alike? That's like asking,"Are all Squids alike?"

Some Tagfoot Mentors are geeks, some are moms, others are writers or photographers. Tagfoot has Mentors who are Mac users and those who use PCs.

What's in a Tag Cloud?

Tags are labels you give to your Squidoo Lenses, your blogs, or your web pages. Tags are labels you give to the bookmarks you save in your browser. This is true if you save your bookmarks in your browser or on social bookmarking sites. It's even true for your catalog of music or video files on social media sites.

When ever you create a group of tags, you create a tag cloud. That cloud is like an index of labels or words you use for your stuff.

So, you have a cloud of tags where ever you use them, whether the cloud is visible or not. The similarity between your cloud of tags and the tags of others, reveals how likely you and the other person are to have similar likes.

How is this useful?

Tag Clouds make it easier for search engines to rate and rank web sites because the keywords searchers use are the same as or similar to the tags in the clouds.

What's this mean?

It means you can find your stuff by using your tags as a way to locate your stuff. It also means you can you can group your stuff in your browser, on your lenses, on your blog pages, and on social media sites using the same tagging system.

What's the big deal?

The entire virtual world is comprised of tag clouds. Surfing the web is like flying in the clouds. When you browse, you flit from one tag in a cloud to another cloud with the same tag or from one tag to another tag whether the clouds are yours or not.

This greatly increases the likelihood you'll find stuff you like. It also makes marketers and advertisers very happy. They can make it easier for you to find what you want by using tag, or keywords that match tags you and and others like you prefer.

What's in a Tag Cloud? Opportunity.

What's It Mean to Fly in the Clouds?

Tagfoot users tag often. They tag themselves. They tag their friends.

They tag their bookmarks. They tag items on their own wishlists. They tag news items they write or find on the web.

They tag videos that collect on Tagfoot and they tag their shares with others.

So everyone on Tagfoot has a tag cloud.

What does it mean to fly in the clouds? Surfing among your friends, their bookmarks and shares, guided by the tags that float in the gentle breezes of the Tagfoot community.

What is a Twitfoot?

A Tagfoot member who is also a member of Twitter can do some pretty amazing things at Tagfoot. For example, it's possible to make Tweets directly to Twitter from inside the Tagfoot site.

You can also share your Tagfoot activities on Twitter automatically. For example, I set my account so that when ever I bookmark something, share something, or foot someone else's share up (give it a point because I like it), a Tagfoot sends a tweet to Twitter automatically.

A Tagfoot member can also post ads on Twitter from inside Tagfoot. The variety of uses for Tagfoot and Twitter together is very impressive.

What is a Twitfoot? A Twitfoot is a Tagfoot member who has synchronized her or his Tagfoot and Twitter accounts.

Become a Profoot and Earn Money on Tagfoot

What is a Profoot?

What is a Bigfoot?

As it says on the Tagfoot site, a "bigfoot" is a trusted tagfoot member. Play nice, and a "bigfoot" can prove to be an invaluable friend.

Being a "bigfoot" carries with it some extra juice - beyond the pretty badge. Although being footed up or down by a "bigfoot" carries the same visual weight (+1/-1), behind the scenes, everything is tallied up quite differently. The system pays extra attention to the opinions of a bigfoot so be careful not to get on one's bad side.

Along with the additional heft, "bigfeet" will enjoy sneak peeks at upcoming features, access to exclusive "bigfeet only" posts and perhaps even some additional money making opportunities.

What is a Spamfoot?

A Spamfoot is someone who joined Tagfoot and violates community standards for sharing, commenting, and other qualities of relationships that are valued at Tagfoot. A Spamfoot earns the Spamfoot Badge by continuing to be such an annoyance or a nuisance community members who have earned the Bigfoot Badge decide to do something about it.

What happens?

Democracy - Tagfoot style
If we find any linked content to fall within the above stated guidelines, we remove it without hesitation. The rest... IS ENTIRELY UP TO YOU - the Tagfoot community. You have the power to lay the smack down and make anything effectively invisible to the public eye.

When you foot something down, and it attains a footing of less than 1, it disappears from all public lists - almost instantaneously. The only place negative bookmarks remain visible is from the offending member's profile.

That means that what Tagfoot is, and what it will become, is entirely up to you - all of the time. As it should be.

What is a Tagfoot Mentor?

A Tagfoot Mentor is someone who knows how to fly in the clouds. A Mentor has earned the Profoot badge and knows what you need to do in order to do the same.

A Tagfoot Mentor has also earned the Bigfoot badge. That means that the Mentor understands how to be "technically correct" but also knows how to support the qualities of the relationships that make Tagfoot such a great community.

As a knowledgeable community member, a Tagfoot Mentor keeps a watchful eye over new Tagfoot users and gives a little extra hand up to the Tagfoot members who've asked them to be their Mentor.

This means a Tagfoot Mentor is a volunteer who has met community standards for conduct and and made noteworthy contributions to the Tagfoot community.

A Tagfoot Mentor is a regular and frequent user of Tagfoot, someone who's responding to shares, posting messages, sharing bookmarks, and helping the community discussion shape and preserve a safe, friendly social environment.

In response to another comment... No, there aren't that many mentors on Tagfoot. I got 4 to choose from when I signed up. I think about the majority of us are people who read the title as "Who's on Tagfoot?" or something to the effect. Some might be past mentors. Still, it's been fun browsing them. Perhaps the lensmaster might want to make a separate link list of current official mentors. I know Nightbear and Jimmie are. I think there are a couple more on that list who are.

Great lens. I think that mentorship is one of several things that makes Tagfoot a better community than some other social bookmarking sites. When I joined Tagfoot, my mentor wrote a fairly lengthy note right off.

Support at Tagfoot hand picked the first few Bigfeet and Mentors. Then Support and the newly established Bigfeet had lengthy conversations about criteria and selection process. Tagfoot then adopted the practice of nominating Bigfeet to Support, discussing the nominations among themselves, and after reviewing the nominees participation, use, and contributions to Tagfoot either recommended the nomination be accepted or not. Support then made the final determination of whether to accept or not.
