Talladega Superspeedway
The Talladega Track, also known as the Talladega SuperSpeedway, is the biggest, fastest, most competitive race car track facility in the world. Records for both speed and competition have been established at the Talladega track.
About The Talladega Track
The Talladega track grandstand seating capacity is 143,231, with reserved grandstands on both the east and west sides. Talladega SuperSpeedway has a 212 acre all-reserved infield that accomodates thousands more avid race fans.
The Talladega track started out being named the Alabama International Motor Speedway when it opened in 1969. The name didn't change to the Talladega SuperSpeedway until 1989.
Construction on the Talladega track with 2,000 acres began on May 23, 1968. The Talladega track now consists of approx. 3,000 acres.
The first race at Talladega was on September 13, 1969, and called the 'Bama 400 Grand Touring Race, with Ken Rush winning driving a Camaro.
On September 14, 1969 the Talladega 500, which is now known as the UAW Ford 500; premeired as the first Grand National Race, which is now known as the Nascar Nextel Cup. The winner was Richard Brickhouse, edging out Jim Vandiver and Ramo Stott.

Where Is Talladega?
Talladega Map
The Talladega Track is on Speedway Boulevard, which runs parallel to Interstate 20. The track is 40 miles east of Birmingham, Ala. at Exit 168 and 95 miles west of Atlanta, Ga. at Exit 173.

Hotels For The Talladega Track
Within about 20 minutes of the City of Talladega is Cheaha State Park, home of Cheaha Mountain, which at 2,407 is the highest peak in the state. The Talladega National Forest surrounds the park and contains many scenic hiking trails for outdoors enthusiasts.
Although the Talladega track exists in a picturesque rural setting, it also is located within a short drive to the retail centers of both Birmingham and Atlanta - providing the best of both worlds to area visitors.
The nearby cities of Anniston, Pell City, Lincoln and Sylacauga, provide numerous opportunities for dining, accommodations, shopping and cultural experiences.
