Tamil Songs to Download for Free
Many languages are spoken in India, and there are film industries for each of the major languages (see Indian cinema). Film music is mostly used in commercial Indian cinema, which is mainly produced in the centres of Mumbai (Bollywood), Chennai, and Hyderabad. Indian films are best-known for their music and composers (music directors). Today's most popular music director, A. R. Rahman, got his start in Tamil films and then moved to Bollywood. Other contemprary music directors include the Shankar Mahadevan - Ehsan Noorani - Loy Mendonsa trio, Jatin Lalit, Himesh Reshammiya, Aadesh Srivastav, Ismail Darbar, and Anu Malik. Well-known music directors of the past include S.D. Batish, Naushad, Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, S D Burman, R.D. Burman, Rajesh Roshan, Shankar Jaikishan, Bappi Lahiri, and Ilayaraaja.
Most Indian films are musicals. The actors generally do not sing, but lip-synch to songs sung by such accomplished playback singers as S.D. Batish, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Mukesh, Manna Dey, K. L. Saigal, Yesudas, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Jayachandran, K. S. Chithra and Alka Yagnik.
The extremely popular Hindi filmi songs combine Indian classical music, with its sophisticated, melismatic vocals & traditional instruments, with catchy tunes and stylings from Western pop music. The novel experimentation (resulting in such mixes as "Indian hip hop") has been received well in India and continues to grow in popularity.
Binaca Geetmala was a very popular radio show presented by Ameen Sayani giving popularity ratings of hindi film songs from Indian cinema on a weekly basis, listened to by millions of Hindi music lovers (akin to Billboard Hot 100 list of songs). It ran in various incarnations from 1952 to 1993. Annual lists of the most popular songs were played at year end. The list was compiled on the basis sales of records in India.[1] It was the most popular radio program before Satellite television took over in India sometime in 1990s. Currently, hindi filmi songs are sold on tape & CD compilations, played as promos and in programs on various cable & satellite television channels and radio stations, with different popularity ratings claiming different songs as being on the top.
- SIVAJI - THE BOSS
- The much awaited audio of Sivaji is out. AVM Productions released the audio in a low key affair at their studios in Chennai on Monday.
The movie starring Rajinikanth and Shreya in lead roles is directed by Shankar with musical score by A R Rahman.
The movie has generated lots of curiosity and the fans of Rajinikanth and the whole of Tamil film industry is eagerly awaiting the release of the movie.
The movie has Valee, Vairamuthu, Pa Vijay and Na Muthukumar penning the lyrics with A R Rahman, S P Balasubramaniam, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Vijay Yesudas, Suresh Peters, Madhusree, Thanvi, Chinmayee, Sainora and Gomathysree lending their voice.
The CDs are priced at Rs 100 and the audio cassette at Rs 45. As an introductory offer, a 3D sticker featuring Rajinikanth is given free of cost along with the CD.
According to reports, almost all the shops in Chennai have reported big sales in the morning itself. - VALLAVAN
- Vallavan - Tamil Movie Songs
Yuvanshankar Raja is on a red-hot streak in Kollywood rendering chartbusters at regular intervals. Working with several prominent production houses, he seems to have adopted a style for himself and seems to be going steady day after day.
After Manmadhan, Yuvan has teamed up with Silambarasan for Vallavan and has come out with foot-tapping numbers besides a catchy 'theme music' which would certainly reach out to the masses.
Silambarasan, T Rajendher, Sunidhi Chauhan, Karthik and pop star Blaaze have given an energetic performance, and Vallavan is perhaps the audio of the year.
With the right mix of hip-hop and western tunes, the movie has songs that look promising for the youth set. - SILLUNNU ORU KAADHAL
- Sillunnu Oru kaadhal - Tamil Movie Songs
You cannot keep a good thing bottled up for long. A R Rahman's Sillunu Oru Kaadhal is a good example.
The master of techno-orchestration and stylized melodies has shown fine form.
Rahman has used few fresh voices besides himself rendering a number with aplomb.

- Thimiru - Tamil Movie Songs
He is the latest sensation in Kollywood. With his tunes topping all charts and his movies making it big.
Yuvan Shankar Raja has already proved his mettle. Adding one more to his latest hits is Thimiru. It has a mix of racy, soft and peppy tunes. The highlight being a song sung by Gangai Amaran.
Thimiru starring Vishal, Reema Sen and Shriya Reddy is directed by debutant Tharun Gopi.
The other talking point of the album is that Yuvan recorded the songs in a studio in Bangkok.
Hitherto Yuvan was seen as a music-composer who can come up with classy stuff. In Thimiru, he has gone ahead to prove that he can also score music for the front-benchers. - SIVAPPATHIGARAM
- Sivappathigaram - Tamil Movie Songs
Vidyasagar and Karu Palaniappan share an excellent rapport. It was evident in the songs of the director's maiden venture Parthiban Kanavu. The two have come together in Sivapathigaram and seem to be continuing their good run.
If songs in Parthiban Kanavu were inspired by Classical Carnatic music, folk songs have been the source of inspiration for Vidyasagar in Sivapathigaram. An earthy feel prevails all through. Vidyasagar has introduced few folk singers through the album.
There has been criticism from various quarters these days against the standard of lyrics in Tamil songs. Hats off to lyricists Pa Vijay and Yuga Bharathy, who have done their best to glorify Tamil culture and heritage through the songs.
