Why are there so many different types of indoor tanning lotions on the market today? First of all, there are really only three main types of tanning lotions. Even though there are hundreds upon hundreds of lotions to choose from you need to only know a few facts to choose the right one. The three main types of tanning bed lotions are bronzers, tingle lotions and standard lotions (no added bronzer or tingle ingredients). Basically all lotions on the market fall into one of these three categories. Some lotions are actually a combination bronzer/tingle lotion, but these aren't very common.

Bronzer lotions contain added ingredients in their formulas that work with your skin to give you deeper, darker color than if you used a regular lotion. You will find lotions with 2, 4, 10 and more bronzers in their formulas. Bronzers are the most popular type of lotion and a good portion of the lotions on the market are bronzers. People love them because they make you darker in the shortest amount of time. A reason someone wouldn't like a bronzer is that you have to wait 4 or more hours after your tanning session before taking a shower and the bronzer can sometimes temporarily discolor parts of your skin.

Tingle lotions do not contain any extra skin darkening components but they do contain additional ingredients that cause a tingling sensation on your skin during a tanning session. Some people like tingle lotions because it makes them feel like the lotion is actually working when they feel the tingling.

Standard lotions do not contain any extra bronzing or tingle ingredients and merely use traditional indoor tanning lotion ingredients in their formulas. There are many many high-quality regular tanning bed lotions available and the up-side to using a standard lotion is that it is usually less expensive than the others and will give you just about the same effect.
