What are TapeWorms?

Tapeworms are parasites that usually live in the intestines. Most people with tapeworms are unaware of it because it might not show any symptoms. Tapeworms feeds off of food in the hosts digestive system and can grow to a very long size such as 15 to 30 feet in length. They are called "tape" worm because they are flat and long and look like a measuring tape.

Tapeworms can occur in humans in two different forms. Ingested as eggs or ingested as larvae. When you ingest tapeworm eggs, these eggs may develop into larvae that move out of the intestines and form cysts in other tissues such as the lungs or liver. These cysts can cause serious health problems. And if humans ingest tapeworm larvae, they typically develop into adult tapeworms in the intestines, which usually cause few or no symptoms.

A tapeworm infection that is restricted to the intestines is easily treated with oral medications, and the prognosis for eradication is good. However, when the tapeworm migrates to other parts of the body, the treatment is more difficult and if left untreated, it can be life-threatening.

Symptoms of Tapeworm Infection

In many cases, they are no signs or symptoms associated with tapeworm infection. Most people won't even know that they have tapeworm in their body.

Signs and symptoms of intestinal infection

Most likely, you won't have any signs or symptoms with an intestinal infection. It's possible you might notice segments of the adult tapeworm in your stool. Other possible signs and symptoms include:

=> Nausea
=> Weakness
=> Loss of appetite
=> Abdominal pain
=> Diarrhea
=> Rectal Itching
=> Weight loss and inadequate absorption of nutrients from food

Signs and symptoms of invasive infection

If tapeworm larvae have moved out of your intestines and formed cysts in other tissues, it can cause organ and tissue damage, resulting in:

=> Fever
=> Cystic masses or lumps
=> Allergic reactions to the larvae
=> Bacterial infections
=> Neurological symptoms or seizures if the brain is involved

Causes of Tapeworm Infections

There are several tapeworm species that cause the tapeworm disease in humans. The pork tapeworm (Taenia solium), beef tapeworm (Taenia saginata), dwarf tapeworm (Hymenolepis nana), and fish tapeworm (Diphyllobothrium latum) are all capable in creating a tapeworm infection in humans.

You usually get tapeworm infection by ingesting tapeworm eggs or larvae.

Ingestion of tapeworm eggs: Tapeworm eggs are ingested through food, water or soil contaminated with human or animal (host) faeces.

For example, if a pig is infected with a tapeworm, it may pass eggs or segments (proglottids) of the adult tapeworm through its faeces into the soil. Each segment of the tapeworm contains thousands of microscopic eggs. You can then ingest these eggs by eating any food contaminated with this faeces. Once you consume the eggs, they may develop into larvae, which can migrate out of your intestines and form cysts in other tissues such as your lungs or liver. This type of infection is not common with beef or fish tapeworms, but can occur with the pork tapeworm - called cysticercosis - and can also occur with dog and sheep tapeworms - called echinococcosis.

Ingestion of larvae cysts in meat or muscle tissue: You can also get a tapeworm infection by eating raw or undercooked meat from an animal or a fish that has the larvae form of the tapeworm (cysts) in its muscle tissue. Once you ingest them, the larvae then develop into adult tapeworms in your intestines.

Adult tapeworms can measure up to 50 feet long and can survive as long as 20 years. Some tapeworms attach themselves to the walls of the intestine, where they cause irritation or mild inflammation, while others may pass through to your stool and exit your body.

Unlike other tapeworms, the dwarf tapeworm can complete its entire life cycle - egg to larva to adult tapeworm - in one host. This is the most common tapeworm infection in the world and can be transmitted between humans.

While being treated for certain tapeworm infections, you can reinfect yourself by ingesting tapeworm eggs shed by the adult worm into your stool. That's why you should take care to wash your hands after using the toilet.

Prevention and Treatment of Tapeworm Infections

Remove Tapeworm from your body

To prevent tapeworm infection:

=> Always wash your hands properly with soap and water when handling food or after a visit to the toilet.
=> Wash and cook all your fruits and vegetables with safe water before eating.
=> Eliminate livestock exposure to tapeworm eggs by properly disposing of animal and human feces.
=> Avoid raw food. You should always thoroughly cook your meat at temperatures of at least 150 F (66 C) to kill tapeworm eggs or larvae.
=> Promptly treat dogs infected with tapeworm.

There are many medications that can kill adult tapeworms in the intestine. These medications are toxic to the tapeworms and can kill them off quite easily. Biltricide is a common medicine recommended for the treatment of tapeworm infection.

Tapeworms can also be dealt with by fasting on raw pineapple for a few days - 3 to 4 days. The bromelain in pineapple kills the tapeworms. Be sure to juice the pineapple armor as well as the fleshy fruit.

Daily Protocol: Throughout the day, chew small amounts of a mixture of pumpkinseeds, papaya seeds, papaya pulp, and unsweetened organic yogurt. Also drink filtered water with two garlic capsules.

Before each meal, add pepsin and glycerine to hot water and drink immediately. Upon arising and at bedtime, swallow one clove of peeled garlic followed by a glass of hot tea with lemon.

In cases in which the tapeworm infection has migrated to tissues outside your intestine, your doctor may prescribe an anti-inflammatory steroid to reduce any swelling caused by the development of cysts.
