Tarot Cards are one of the Main methods of Fortune Telling

Tarot is one of the oldest fortune telling systems.

You can tell your own fortune  Fortune using Tarot Cards

I give two examples of Tarot Decks and  an explanation of some readings.

The Photo is of the Magician from the Salvador Dali Tarot Deck.

Dali Painted himself as the Magician. He painted his wife on the Empress Tarot Card

I read Tarot myself (but not online as I have to have personal contact for effective readings) and am currently writing more Squidoo lenses on Tarot.

These will be announced here when complete.

Tarot Video

TarotVision; a video journey - Major Arcana RiderWaite Tarot

http://www.TarotVision.com For the purpose of this short TarotVision video I incorporate a key tarot card meaning on each major arcana card and weave them together into what can become a mystic initiation, a TarotVision journey along the path of the Major Arcana. For an initiate this can be a lifelong journey, for others a few moments of entertainment.

Suitable Tarot Decks for beginners at Tarot

I only suggest 3 decks of a general nature

If you are reading for occult purposes then choose a deck suited to your individual path.

The Phoenix Cards: Reading and Interpreting Past-Life Influences with the Phoenix Deck

For those interested in Past Life Regression and its influences on your current life.
I would never be able to sum up what has happened even so far in this life with one card reading once, so I can't imagine why anyone would assume the same of several past lives.
May take a little getting used to but when you do get used to the symbolism this is a VERY strong deck indeed. This is an excellent deck for continued use over time.

Amazon Price: $19.77 (as of 01/05/2010) Buy Now

Universal Waite Tarot Deck

The BEST Deck for beginners
The serene Universal Waite Tarot is perfect for meditation and readings. The deck is a soothing, eye-appealing complement to the traditional Rider-Waite deck. The drawings of Pamela Colman Smith have been beautifully recolored by Mary Hanson-Roberts.

Amazon Price: $13.50 (as of 01/05/2010) Buy Now

Tarot of the Witches Deck/Tarot Cards

Lovely Artwork on this deck but its not for everyone -
You have to use your own imagination and find your own meanings to the symbolism...which in my opinion is what tarot cards are all about. For those of you who want a deck that lays out plainly what the cards mean, then this is not for you.(Part from review by purchaser)
The Artowrk is super and has slightly surrealist overtones.

Questions and Answers

Q: Which Tarot Deck should I buy (beginner)
A: Rider Waite Universal - this is the easiest deck to use

Q: Is Tarot connected to Witchcraft ?
A: Sometimes .. Tarot is a tool and different folks use it in different ways.I know Witches who use Tarot and Clergymen who use Tarot too ! Lets clear up a MYTH - Witches are *NOT* evil people - they just follow an older Religion and have deeply held beliefs. Satanists are different and I don't know any.. so I can't comment on that.

Q: I've heard of Aleister Crowley and Tarot so isn't Tarot evil ?
A: No - Tarot is a tool (Again !) In the same way that a knife was used by Jack the Ripper and by your local butcher, the tool is inert but can be used for good or evil.

Q: Are there real Tarot Readers ?
A; Yes there are thousands of real Tarot Readers.
There are also hundreds of con-artists using Tarot to further themselves. To find a real Tarot Reader ask around for recommendations.Real Tarot Readers get a faithful following.

Q: Can I learn to be a Tarot Reader ?

A: Yes... either get a real tarot reader to teach you or buy a good book (again the Rider Waite is the best one to learn with).I know I keep going on about the Rider Waite Tarot but it doesn't follow any particular path while being easy to interpret and good visually.I do NOT recommend Fantasy Decks for beginners .

Tarot Cards for all

No-one is really sure who first invented Tarot Cards - but they are old - really old.
The earliest pack in existence is from the 15th Century but it's a fair bet that in some form they go back much further than that.
Tarot was used also as a Card Game and this may well have been to avoid the user being targeted as a Witch during medieval times.
Tarot cards are divided into two psrts - the Major Arcana and the Minor Suits .
There are four suits and a total of 78 Cards. .
A Description of the Major Arcana is in the next section.
Tarot is associated with Wicca and the Occult. It is also used to open the readers psychic senses to evaluate relationships and business matters.
Genuine psychics do use Tarot - usually the Rider-Waite deck or the Dali Deck. For matters of Love and Relationships then probably the Klimt Deck (A beautiful Deck ) is more appropriate..
Wiccans and Magicians use Tarot to forecast the outcome of a ritual or spell.

Just a Hint !

Why you shouldn't read just ONE card !

Tarot Cards are designed as a complete system (although many people read just one card)
One of the real basics of Tarot reading is the visualisation of Tarot Cards as individal s themselves rather than as crude symbols. As any group of individuals will be interdependent upon each other ,so will Tarot Cards. This is explained more fully in several Tarot Books.
A single Tarot card is by itself fairly meaningless unless it is PART OF A SPREAD - like the Celtic Cross for instance where the POSITION of that card in the spread gives a different meaning to the card - for instance the initial card in the spread of the Celtic Cross represents You in your current position - others represent what is before you, behind you, crossing you etc. The SAME card in any of these positions will thus have a different meaning !
Beginners should use the Rider Waite Universal Deck until they are more used to reading. Its an easy one to learn on !

Tarot General Information

The tarot (first known as tarocchi, also tarock and similar names), , is a pack of cards (most commonly numbering seventy-eight), used from the mid fifteenth century in various parts of Europe to play card games such as Italian Tarocchini and French Tarot. From the late 18th century until the present time the Tarot has also found use by mystics and occultists in efforts at divination or as a map of mental and spiritual pathways.

The tarot has four suits corresponding to the suits of conventional playing cards. Each of these suits has pip cards numbering from ace to ten and four face cards for a total of fourteen cards. In addition, the tarot is distinguished by a separate 21-card trump suit and a single card known as the Fool. Depending on the game, the Fool may act as the top trump or may be played to avoid following suit.

Rabelais gives tarau as the name of one of the games played by Gargantua in his Gargantua and PantagruelFrançois Rabelais, Gargantua and Pantagruel, ch. 22, "Les Jeux de Gargantua"; this is likely the earliest attestation of the French form of the name.

Tarot cards are used throughout much of Europe to play card games.

In English-speaking countries, where these games are largely unknown, Tarot cards are now used primarily for divinatory purposes. Huson, Paul, (2004) Mystical Origins of the Tarot: From Ancient Roots to Modern Usage, Vermont: Destiny Books, ISBN 0-89281-190-0

Mystical Origins of the Tarot

Occultists call the trump cards and the Fool "the major arcana" while the ten pip and four court cards in each suit are called minor arcana. The cards are traced by some occult writers to ancient Egypt or the Kabbalah but there is no documented evidence of such origins or of the usage of tarot for divination before the eighteenth century.

Salvador Dali and The Tarot

Dali was not only an eccentric artist - he was primarily a SUPERB ARTIST ! if you ever get the chance to visit the Dali Museum in Florida - don't miss it. His work was (in my opinion) the equal of most Old Masters.
He did a major project to produce a Tarot Pack of exquisite beauty - which was very successfully produced and is in fact the pride of my own collection of Tarot Cards. He painted himself as The Magician and his wife as The Empress.
This is not only a Tarot deck but also a miniature collection of stunnigly beautiful miniature paintings.
Although Dali is best known for his surrealist work (bendy clocks and men on exceptionally tall horses ..) he spent his early years painting monumental Relgious paints that are truly breathtaking. Its from some of these that he drew his inspiration for the Dali Tarot Deck.
It is not a cheap deck (even secondhand, the deck fetches nearly the retail price). Take my tip and wait till you can afford the luxury version and you will not regret it.
On a strictly commercial level, this is a very collectible Tarot deck and should rise in value.
I really don't think this Tarot deck is suitable for a beginner as the individual cards require intense concentration and meditation to get the best results.
If you don't want to splash out $100 (!) on this deck then get the the Salvador Dali Tarot Book by Rachel Pollack in which every one f the 78 cards is illustrated full page so you can see just what I'm talking about ! (This book by the way is kind of essential to read the Dali Deck properly.)

I'd advise beginners to buy the Rider Waite Tarot Deck where the symbolisn is easier to interpret.
With the Dali deck you will be delving into both your own and your client's Pysche !
(If you are reading Tarot for a living then your clients WILL be very impressed with the Dali Deck !)
