I believe that is good website design should have an easy navigating menu. Try to not make your website visitors use the BACK or FORWARD buttons in the Explorer.
Also try to make your html pages error free.
Sometimes new design concepts or new design idea so you will attract the visitor to navigate your website pages.
Make your website text clear and easy to read (no images for back grounds only one clear color for example white text dark back ground or black text and white back )
Make your website eye catching so your product image is big enough and clear. Put your product image in center as much as you can.
Try to drop off any blinking flashes or images because the eye of your website visitor will keep catching them so may take the concentration of your website visitors.
Use simple and eye relaxing colors ( i mean when you combining them in your website for example Green, yallo and white is fine for the website design with black text)
I always suggest that you should draw your website in ADOBE PHOTOSHOP then you turn it to html after you become sure that this design is what you want.
Things you should consider:

1-Decide who you're targeting.
2-Do not make your site heavy and un ordered.
3-Put small images with "alt text" relevant to your business.
4-The logo of your company should be there.
5-The design should be relevant content about your business or services.
6-Cross-browser compatibility is important
7- No horizantal scrolling bars.
8- Fast loaded pages ( when you use flash try to make the flash website more than one movie + use websites loader)
