   Eastern-North-Carolina-Barbeque-Sauce
   
   INGREDIENTS
   
   2 quarts cider vinegar
   1/4 cup salt
   2 tablespoons cayenne pepper
   3 tablespoons red pepper flakes
   1 cup light brown sugar
   1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
   
   DIRECTIONS
   In a large bowl, mix together cider vinegar, salt, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, light brown sugar, and hot pepper sauce. Stir until salt and brown sugar have dissolved. Cover, and let stand at least 3 hours before using as a basting sauce or serving on meat.

   Traditional Southern Biscuit
   
   INGREDIENTS
   3 cups self-rising flour, plus some to flour the board
   ½ cup shortening or lard
   1 cup milk
   
   DIRECTIONS
   Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
   Sift the flour into a medium bowl.
   Add the shortening to the flour in bits and cut into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
   Form a well in the center of the flour and add the milk into the well.
   Stir the milk into the flour with a fork, just until mixed.
   Turn out onto a floured board, counter top, or piece of parchment paper. Knead gently 2 or 3 times and roll or pat to a ½ inch thickness.
   Cut into 2 inch rounds with a biscuit cutter. Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
   Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve hot.

   Broccoli Raisin Salad
   
   INGREDIENTS:
   
   1 large bunch of broccoli, cut in florettes (that means into nice little stems that look like trees. You might want to cut the florettes in half down the stem.)
   1/3-1/4 cup bacon
   1 cup mayonaisse
   1/4 cup white wine vinegar
   1/4 cup sugar
   A handful of raisins (about 1/2 cup)
   1/2 cup chopped walnuts
   1 chopped apple
   Salt and pepper
   
   DIRECTIONS
   All you have to do is make the sauce - stir the mayonaisse, vinegar, and sugar until smooth - and pour it on the rest of the ingredients. Throw in a little salt and pepper, and refrigerate the salad for 2

   Yellow Cake
   
   ¾ cup (1½ sticks) butter
   1 cup milk
   2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
   2¾ teaspoons baking powder
   ½ teaspoons salt
   4 eggs
   2 cups sugar
   1 teaspoon vanilla extract
   
   INGREDIENTS
   carmel
   
   1 cup sugar
   1 can condensed milk
   1 stick butter or margarine
   *Duncan Hines (with the pudding) is good also
   
   DIRECTIONS
   
   combine ingredients in sauce pan
   (together, at the same time)
   Stir until it thickens on low
   **too much sugar was added or the sugar didn't desolve if it becomes gritty after it cools...should stay creamy**
