Tatting Just For You - Patricia Ann Rizzo

Many years ago I picked up the almost lost art of tatting.  Just basically one stitch over and over again but so difficult to master right off the bat.  This difficulty plus the slowness of the work made it kind of fall out of favor.  Everything today is on a fast track...but I find it comforting to sometimes just sit with the radio on and do a bit of tatting.  So, don't take that valium, pick up a shuttle instead and learn the almost lost art of tatting.

My website http://www.tattingjustforyou.com is dedicated to beginning tatters.  It contains several step by step tutorials and some easy tatting booklets I put together through the years.

All You Need for Tatting

You don't need much to be able to sit and tat - here are the tools:

1. Thread of any thickness - this happens to be size 30 tatting thread.

2. A tatting shuttle. I prefer Boye plastic shuttles with a spike (long nose on the end). Shuttles can come made up in anything. I have several handmade wooden ones, silver ones, metal ones. Its important to understand the shuttle merely holds your thread and has no other real purpose. You might want a larger one to hold heavier thread or a smaller one to hold delicate thread. The shape of the shuttle is only a matter of personal preference - what feels best to you.

3. A nice stick pin for untangling any snarls or knots you might get.

4. Scissors - preferably those small ones used in embroidery.

5. A small steel crochet hook for pulling picots and joinings.

Thats all there is to it - you can fit the whole thing into a sandwich bag and put it in your purse....or for the men, pocket. Yes, many men are also excellent tatters.

On my website http://www.tattingjustforyou.com there are complete instructions on how to tat - also a closeup of that elusive stitch one needs to learn.

Tiny Tatted Angel

This is my own pattern. For those of you who do know how to tat I will place the pattern here in the near future - so watch for it :-)
(so many things to do...so little time).

A Brand New Pattern Book "The Little Book of Tatted Angels"

Brand New - get a copy today :-)

I know its mid-summer but soon the holidays will be on us once again. Thinking of that, I sat down one week and created this tiny booklet of 7 tiny tatted angel patterns. They can be stiffened and used for tree ornaments or decorate packages, make an angel mobile, or slip them into holiday or birthday cards - anywhere you want to spread a little cheer. I keep a supply in a drawer just in case I need a tiny gift or something to slip into a card or letter. This booklet assumes the user knows tatting basics. If you wish to learn, free instructions are on my website.

The book is only $3.25 plus $1.00 shipping.
Pick it up on my website today :-)
