tattoo art that freaked out MOM

I couldn't make this work here on squidoo which was my first choice, not sure if it wasn't allowed or if i just couldn't figure it out. As European travelers returned from Polynesia to
Europe carrying tales of skin art & images and
even bearing some of these tattoos, people became
more and more fascinated. The sailors especially
were keen to try out this new art form.

The natives who were skilled in creating tattoos
found willing subjects in the sailors and other
westerners who visited Polynesia. Until the
colonizing missionary's decided it was unholy and
primitive and tried to have the practice banned.
They only succeeded in diminishing it and not
eliminating it. As the Europeans continued to
practice the art.

When tattooing began to emerge in the US there
were technological advances in design and colour
and machines, that led to tattooing becoming more
prevalent and uniquely all American.

The first tattoo shop was believed to be set up by
Martin Hildebrandt,in 1846 in NY city. There began
a tradition of soldiers both union and rebel, and
sailors getting tattoos representing battles or
significant events. It seems King Edward VII
started the fad among his peers in England when he
got a tattoo before he ascended the throne.

Apparently the Polynesians were no more primitive
then the Europeans and Americans as they used
tattoos to show loyalty and devotion or to
memorialize a heroic battle or simply to make a
beautiful piece of enduring art. Which is what the
Americans and Europeans also did.

During the 1940's, with the onset of WWII, the prevailing mood in the country was one of intense patriotism, which created a boom for the tattoo artists. Soldiers and sailors made up the bulk of the customers and by the 1950's the tattoo industry was well entrenched in western civilization, but still somewhat on the fringe of society.
Now that we are in the 21st century tattooing has come along way, and is excepted as a legitimate art form, that appeals to both men and women although there are still some people young and old who are
against permanently marking there bodies, but for those who decide to get inked the choices for style and colour and location on the body are only limited by the imagination of the person and the artist.

mother "absolutely, positively no way on heaven or earth are you getting a tattoo, do you know what that will do to your prospects for the rest of your life.
daughter "it's my life" = STALEMATE
If you're reading this and you're a mom to a teenager you can relate and if you're a teenager reading this I am sure you agree with the daughter.
So enter Dad into the picture, "to keep the piece lets tell mom that it's not a permanent Tat." Daughter agrees,
So Mom reluctantly agrees, to a tattoo that she believes will eventually wear away, although it took months before mom was told by a family member that it sure is dark for a not permanent tattoo, and another few months before dad admits to mom that yes it's true the tattoo is permanent. But by then Mom has realized it is not the end of the world and said daughter now has a total of 10 tat's and one of which she did herself, with her very own tattoo gun, and being a mom, I am now very proudly showing off her body art pics to all my friends.
It did not take long before I was educated about the world of body art, and with anything the more you understand it and the people who practice it the more tolerant you become, as with any other facet of life open mindedness brings understanding and understanding brings tolerance. Something we should probably all take a refresher course in, mine came in the form of my 15 yr old daughter, Thanx JJ.

So now I am an advocate of anyone who wants to express themselves through this form of art and to that end I support these 2 websites they have quality work that anyone would be proud to show off. Click Here! or this one click here! both sites are very informative and have lots of selection.
However there are some things that every one needs to take into account. Tats are permanent so my recommendation is try it out in permanent felt markers to see if you can truly live with it or check out below on amazon for a book about temporary tats. Also choose the time of year to get it. If you get one on your shoulder blade for example it's tough to put on a heavy winter coat. And if you are an avid swimmer or sunbather special precautions need to be taken, so make sure you discuss these with your artist, and then do what he/she tells you. You wouldn't want to spend possibly a lot of money and then have it fade out or get infected and be ruined just because you got a little impatient.
