HERE'S MY DILEMMA
Tattoo at 40?. . .Help Me Decide
My 40th Birthday is almost here and a tradition is trying to start in my family where you get a tattoo when you're 40. My younger sister has already bought me a tattoo. I am in the exact middle of wanting to get one. I am 50% yes and 50% no. I wrote this lens for a totally selfish reason, I know. And that is so that you will PLEASE help me decide!
If I decide to get a tattoo, I'm thinking of getting a Harry Potter design. So make sure you vote on the best Harry Potter design below.

NO! Reasons why I DO NOT want a tattoo.
- OUCH! It's gonna hurt! And, yes, I'm whining when I say that.
- It's childish. Am I just doing this to make me feel better about growing old?
- It's selfish. Kind of the in the same category as childish but a little different.
- I'm setting a bad example for my daughter.
- I'm going to develop gangrene in the limb I get it on and it will fall off or - worse yet - I will die!
- I have no "niche". For instance, my sister got her dance company logo tattooed onto her shoulder. That's a good reason to get a tattoo.
- Angelina Jolie is HOT (see picture above) and I ai-NOT!
YES! Reasons why I DO want a tattoo.
- It's kinda cool. I could be one of the cool kids.
- Good conversation piece. (Someone pointed this out to me - I mean, like I don't have a lot of other stuff I spout off about - just look at my Squidoo pages.)
- I may not have a "niche", like I said above, but I'm the biggest Harry Potter fan EVER.
- Everybody else is doing it. Meaning my sister got one.
- Loosen up, take a chance. Quit going through life facing backwards. To quote Cornelius Robinson from the movie, "Meet The Robinsons", "Keep moving forward!"
- Quit making such a big deal out of it and just do it. It doesn't define you.
- Some of the Harry Potter tattoos I found are kinda cool. See the photos from flickr below and make sure to vote!

I say yes. I got one on my 44th birthday in memory of my mom, who had just passed away. I had wanted one on my 40th, but could not decide WHAT I would want on my body forever. It was finally easy, as each time I look at it, I think of my mom. Be sure that yours has special meaning to you!

I think if you want it then you should get it. :) I would get something that means more to you than to anyone else. Something that you won't grow out of.

Get a tatto but not Harry Potter. Design your own. Something that is personal, creative. Yours. Celebrate a milestone--say something. This should be all about You!

Yes get the tattoo, because I did not get one when I was forty so you know how cool I am! That is right - I am a dork. By the way I will never get one - I too am afraid that my limb will rot off with gangrene and I will die and not to mention - my skin will break out and I will itch to death! LOVE AMY

Chris says:
Missy, get the tattoo but don't get a Harry Potter tattoo. Design one yourself. Get a picture of Ainsley or Frank, or maybe Mr. Klaric or maybe "your mom's name" on your butt and bet people at the Tavern that you have your mom's name tattooed on your butt.

* It's kinda cool. I could be one of the cool kids.
YEAH, FOLLOW THE CROWD. THE COOL THING ABOUT IT IS THAT YOUR TATTOO WILL BE COMPLETELY UNIQUE
* Good conversation piece. (Someone pointed this out to me - I mean, like I don't have a lot of other stuff I spout off about - just look at my Squidoo pages.)
ITS FUN TO SHOW IT OFF, AND SURPRISE PEOPLE WHO OBVIOUSLY THINK I DON'T SEEM LIKE THE TATTOO 'TYPE.' WTF, THEY DON'T KNOW ME OR MY LIFE.
* I may not have a "niche", like I said above, but I'm the biggest Harry Potter fan EVER.
YOU ARE YOUR OWN NICHE.
* Everybody else is doing it. Meaning my sister got one.
YOU JUST WANT TO BE ME.
* Loosen up, take a chance. Quit going through life facing backwards. To quote Cornelius Robinson from the movie, "Meet The Robinsons", "Keep moving forward!"
LIVE A LITTLE ALREADY
* Quit making such a big deal out of it and just do it. It doesn't define you.
EXACTLY.
* Some of the Harry Potter tattoos I found are kinda cool. See the photos from flickr below and make sure to vote!
I THINK YOU SHOULD GET THE GRYFFINDOR SHIELD OR LION, SO YOU WILL REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE BRAVE!

* OUCH! It's gonna hurt! And, yes, I'm whining when I say that.
WAH WAH WAH, CRY ME A RIVER! YOU GAVE BIRTH TO A HUMAN, YOU CAN HANDLE THIS.
* It's childish. Am I just doing this to make me feel better about growing old?
YES, BUT DON'T YOU WANT TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT GETTING OLDER?
* It's selfish. Kind of the in the same category as childish but a little different.
BEING SELFISH IS THE POINT. MY TATTOO WAS MY LAST F-YOU TO EVERYONE WHO THOUGHT THEY COULD TELL ME WHAT TO DO. IF THAT'S SELFISH, THEN I NEEDED TO BE MORE SELFISH EARLIER ON IN MY LIFE, BECAUSE I LET PEOPLE CONTROL ME TOO MUCH. IT'S YOUR BODY, YOU CAN'T DO IT FOR ANYONE ELSE BUT YOU. SELFISH IS KIND OF THE POINT.
* I'm setting a bad example for my daughter.
YOU ALREADY DO THAT IN A LOT OF OTHER WAYS, WHO CARES.
* I'm going to develop gangrene in the limb I get it on and it will fall off or - worse yet - I will die!
PUL-EASE.
* I have no "niche". For instance, my sister got her dance company logo tattooed onto her shoulder. That's a good reason to get a tattoo.
HAVING A NICHE IS NOT THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE GET TATTOOS. YOU ARE YOUR OWN NICHE.
* Angelina Jolie is HOT (see picture above) and I ai-NOT!
ANGELINA JOLIE IS TOO SKINNY. YOU ARE A REAL WOMAN.

Getting a tattoo if you' are not 100% sure about it is very foolish. Why get something that is permanent if you're not completely committed to it? Getting a tattoo just because it's a "tradition" in your family is also really weak. Don't you have any individuality? Stop trying to fit in and be "cool" and just be yourself. Besides, a Harry Potter design? Are you really going to be proud of that 20 years later, or 30?
I have a tattoo and I thought it was a great idea at the time. i was a teenager. I'm in my mid 30's now. It doesn't fit with my personality anymore. Make your own decision, but if you get one, do it because you want one FOREVER, not because it's something that other people are doing and you want to bow to peer pressure.

Don't know about you but I wouldn't get one, no matter what the crowds do and no matter what traditions tell me to do. I feel more unique if I make my own choices... :)

Steve-O Seeks Fans' Help in Tattoo Coverup
Story from "digitalspy.com"

By Sarah Rollo, Entertainment Reporter
Steve-O has asked fans to help him redesign his body art after becoming tired of some of his tattoos. The Jackass prankster and Dancing With The Stars contestant has launched an online contest for fans to exercise their creativity.
The 34-year-old, who was recently praised by Johnny Knoxville for overcoming his alcohol problem, wrote: "I've decided that it is time to alter some tattoos, starting with the pot leaf on my wrist and the dribbling (expletive) on my arm.
"I want to make sure that whatever I change them into is really rad, though, so I am officially asking for your help. Please get to doodling and submit to us your tattoo designs to cover up these (expletive) things."

- It's your body, and your life. No one can tell you what to do or not do with it. You are a beautiful and unique individual and the right tattoo will enhance that uniqueness and beauty. But the important thing is that YOU think it's perfect. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks you should do.
