How to find your perfect tattoo designs online
Hi, my name's Anthony and I've loved the sight of beautifully crafted tattoos for as long as I can remember. I've lost count of the times I've had my head turned by a beautifully tattooed back or neck. My personal favourites are some of the fabulous fairy or butterfly designs that I come across. Whether it is a young woman with a dainty butterfly on her shoulder or something a bit more extravagant such as a 10-inch gothic fairy design I can't help but admire the artistry of the tattooist.
I've made a lot of friends simply by starting a conversation about someone's tattoos. One of the best things about people who have tattoos is that we are a sociable lot who are always happy to talk about our ink. It never ceases to amaze me the pride that a lot of us have about our tattoos. Many is the time when I've spoken to someone about a tattoo on, say, their arm and before long off comes the shirt or up comes the trouser leg and we spend the next half an hour comparing tattoos.

The History of Tattoo Designs
From dots and dashes to Butterfly's and Fairy's
Tattoo design is a big business. Something once thought to be only appropriate for drunks and criminals has become a popular method of self-expression and creativity. Tattoo art often gives a valuable insight into the true essence of a person. So where did tattoos start, and how did we arrive at the attitudes toward tattoo design that we have today?

Like much of ancient history, the exact details of tattoo design aren't available. But most historians believe that tattooing dates back as far as 3300-5000 B.C. in 1991, "Otzi the Ice Man" was discovered. His body was found frozen in the mountainous region on the border of Italy and Austria, and he had 57 mysterious markings on his skin. These earliest tattoo designs were primitive dots, dashes, and lines. By the locations of the markings on his body, scientists conclude that they were either used as a cosmetic disguise to his aging, or as a result of treatment for arthritis.

Ancient history points to other uses for tattoos besides the covering of disease. Egyptian paintings from around 2000 B.C. indicate that tattoo design was an important part of their culture.
As history unfolded, various tribes began to use body art as a way of identifying fellow tribe members. By branding their bodies with the same tribal symbol, tribe members could identify each other easily. Tattoos also began to be used for marking the accomplishments of individuals within a tribe. In some tribes, certain tattoo designs designated victories in battle. Others recognized the social status of individuals. For women, tattoo designs were used to denote their position in the family. Women sported tattoos to represent reaching adulthood and getting married, for example.
The most dramatic shift in tattoo design came in 1890, when a tattoo artist named Samuel O'Reilly invented the electric tattoo machine. Tattoos were now available to more people, but mainstream society still didn't accept them as a normal form of expression. It was thought by most that tattoos were only appropriate on the bodies of crooks and drunks.
Ironically, tattoos became a symbol of wealth and social status in the early twentieth century. King George V of the United Kingdom made this possible. When he traveled to less developed countries, he was exposed to various tattoo designs through the cultures he interacted with. He became intrigued and eventually got two of his own. The two tattoo designs he chose were a cross and a dragon.
This fascination with tattoo art by the wealthy and the social elite was handed down to subsequent generations. In fact, Winston Churchill had a tattoo. So did his mom. Winston Churchhill's tattoo design of choice was an anchor, located on his forearm.
World War II was the catalyst for tattoo design becoming popular in the United States. Military men were exposed to tattoos in the culture of Europe. Many embraced tattoo design as a way to express themselves. They returned to the United States to spread the popularity of tattoo art.

Today, many different groups find their voice in tattoos. Gangs still use the tribal mode of branding their body to show solidarity, as do some religious groups. More common today, however, is the myriad of choices for someone looking for a way to present a piece of his identity to the world in a unique way through tattoo design.

Fairy Tattoos - Which one ?
Gothic Fairy or Tinkerbell
Fairy tattoos are a very popular choice for women, although men choose them as well.

The word "fairy" comes from the Latin word "fata," which means fate. You can chose a fairy design based on its symbolism or simply because you like the look of it. The biggest problem you will face will be which one to choose out of the many designs available.
When choosing your design please bear in mind that the best looking fairy tattoos will be very detailed. This means it will almost certainly cost a little more and take longer to finish but the end result will be worth it. And remember the image will be on your body for the rest of your life. You will want the fairy to be "alive" so it's worth spending the extra effort to make sure you pick the right one.

There are a huge variety of Fairy images to choose from. These vary from cartoon like character fairies to extremely detailed lifelike gothic fairies from literature and mythology. Do you want your fairy to be sitting by a stream of in full flight with beautiful outstretched wings? Whatever you want there will be one that's perfect for you.

The fun and whimsy of the fairy, along with the symbolism of youth and having a free spirit can come together to give you a tattoo that will express your own individuality and personality.
From a small, intricate fairy tattoo to a larger, more detailed one, you will find that they can make an excellent addition and add a bit of personality and fun to your body.

Whereabouts on your body you decide you'd like your tattoo may determine the type of fairy design you want and indeed the size. Fairies look great anywhere on the body and I think look particularly great on arms, the lower back and the shoulders but obviously the choice is yours. Tattoos are after all a very personal way of expressing your individuality

Picking a tattoo is difficult. The more difficult you find it the more likely you'll come to the right decision. If you've spent a long time deciding which tattoo you want then it's more likely you won't regret that decision.
If you are interested in getting a fairy tattoo (or any other kind), it's a great idea to sign up for an account at an online tattoo gallery. These websites allow you to view thousands of professional tattoo designs, making it easy for you to choose the tattoo of your dreams. Due to the expense involved in getting a tattoo and because a tattoo is permanent for life, spending a few dollars on a membership to one of these websites is well worth the money.

I myself am a member of Chopper Tattoo which in my opinion is bar far the best resource on the net to find that perfect design for your tattoo. If you'd like to take a look at what they have to offer then just Click here!

Butterfly Tattoos
From simple black to multicoloured butterfly magic
Butterflies have always been something of a fashion statement. They have always been applied to bags, ferments and jewellery and of course skin. Hardly surprising when you consider the beauty grace and colour of the many different kinds of butterfly.

The butterfly, in nature, has a fairly short life but an overwhelming beauty. We all know that butterflies flit from one thing to the next, maybe this suits your nature. Are you a free spirit not confined by the laws of society then maybe the butterfly is the tattoo design for you. Of course you may wish to choose a butterfly tattoo simply because they look so gorgeous.

It's quite remarkable the variety of colour and form in butterflies in nature. In the tattooist art this can be multiplied as you add your own vision to that of nature. Because of the gentle and graceful curves of the butterfly, such a tattoo is very easy for the tattoo artist to design and draw
As with all tattoos placement is a personal choice. There is no limit to where a butterfly tattoo can be placed. You mat decide on a small delicate design on your ankle or wrist or maybe a slightly larger one on the shoulder blade. How about a huge one on he lower back, or my favourite an intricate butterfly design in a secret to be viewed only by very close friends?

When it comes to deciding the look of your butterfly design you can choose from the full open wingspan to the wings being slightly tucked in. Or for a more unusual look you could have it emerging from its cocoon.
Again the best way to choose a design you know you will like is to browse a gallery of butterfly tattoos available and personally I've found the best of these to be Chopper Tattoo which has tattoo designs by the best artists on the I internet.
