If you have a tattoo, do you regret it now?

Ranked #246 in Culture & Society, #6,231 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, March of Dimes

It's a love-hate thing.

How many out there have experienced tattoo regret? Would you remove one if you could?

Or do you consider them art, and would get more ink in a heartbeat?

regret-free tip: don't get ink before you're 21

REALLY GREAT INK!

Tattoos: Not a good thing

Yeah, people should think about their future.

SecondHandJoe says:

I have somehow gone almost 5 decades without one! I was going to have the zigzag man tattooed on my wrist when I was 17- I haven't smoked pot in 30 years. Imagine if I did.

miaponzo says:

Definitely NOT a good thing..

Claire B says:

It is far more unique to remain un-inked nowadays.

spritequeen says:

Too many people I know have regrets about what they have gotten and even the placement of their ink.

LoveClearSkin says:

Skin is our biggest organ - why ruin it with childish, ugly stains? I look at tattoos like scars! But, at least, scars are unintentional and/or accidental while tattoos are something you want and actually PAY for! I'd rather look at scars on a person's body than tattoos. Some people argued that they wouldn't care what their tattoos look like when they age and their skin sags and gets wrinkled, but I beg to differ. We all care about our looks, no matter what our age. I just thank God I never cared to ruin my skin with tattoos. If I were Einstein and had the ability to come up with a magic formula that would erase tattoos completely and immediately, I'm 100% confident that I would be a BILLIONAIRE within minutes!

Clara says:

EVERYONE with a tattoo will eventually regret it. Those that claim they don't are either in denial or haven't gotten to that point of regret yet. As we age, we change, and with that, our minds our no exception. What you may like now, you may hate later. Ever heard of the saying "You don't know what you got 'til it's gone?" Well, come on people, clear skin is no exception to that rule!!!

WorkitSmart says:

I know it's a big deal these days.. but it seems like just following the crowd to me

Rosalind says:

First, when thinking about a tattoo don't worry about what other people think. It's your tattoo, your the one who will live with it the rest of your life, therefore other's opinions aren't that significant compared to yours. Second, there will always be someone out there who doesn't agree with you so if you really love a design and feel like it's the one you want then go for it. Third, if you want a tattoo and can't decide on what you want, don't jump at the first idea that pops inside your head. There is nothing wrong with waiting and making sure it's what you want, remember this is permanent and will be on your body.

CherrrieB says:

They have always interested me and loved many I have seen.

Lovetheyself says:

I believe that for every action there is a reaction, and every person should be prepared for every reaction. I Have 5 tattoos 2 alternative piercings (not earlobes) and so far I love three of the tattoos can live with or without two love one piercing and undecided about the other. I still plan to get more tattoos and more peircings, because it expresses me, and for those who feel like it's too permenate. Well, life is permanate and you can either live your life writing in sand or etch your life into stone. But realize that there is a negative connotation to tattoos and peircings and while it is lifting, it will alway remain. So choose, wisely and make it matter too you. But never regret anything, I don't reget my tats and peircing causes scaring it literally deforms your body, but love it love yourself regardless, because it can either be a painful reminder or a beautiful memory.

marietta says:

Some tattos art work I wouldn't hang in my mud room, and yet people will have it forever on their arm? When I see tattos I think of that person as a baby born with the skin God gave them, and now destroyed.

Bonita says:

FACT: Everyone who has a tattoo will eventually regret it - it's just a matter of time!!! DO NOT DO IT! Nothing is more beautiful and attractive than clear skin!!! Once that rose wilts, or that happy face becomes a sad face, don't say I didn't tell you so! Skin will eventually sag and wrinkle! As we age, NO ONE will keep youthful, tight skin - which is the only skin foundation that compliments a tattoo in the first place. Think first people!!! I thank God I never cared for them!

Forever21 says:

Tattoos is the official tramp stamp for women! My sister has tattoos - 5 to be exact - and THAT, to me, looks cheap. Everybody knows that, although unfair, we are judged by looks. Nobody with tattoos is taken seriously - especially people who go overboard (tattoo entire arm, leg, face, etc.). I can relate to being misjudged by my sexy, revealing clothing in the summer months. However, at least I can always change my clothes, but tattoos are a permanent commitment. To me, they are like scars: eye sores and unattractive. Not to mention, our skin and minds change as age. Tattoos are ugly - but look even worse on aged, wrinkled, saggy skin!! Think about it people!! Don't ruin your skin!

dr_eagleeye says:

tattoos are not good, what if you regret it after few months or years?

AboSabry from Rapid Weight Loss Techniques

says:

I'm afraid they're way too permanent to appeal to me

solidmanxyz says:

Really great information on tattoos. i am really interested in tattoo designs so this is good ;)

ModaTips says:

I have two tattoos!! I love one of them because it is a family tattoo...However,...I have one on my back that I did when I was 16 and 100% no doubt want to take it out or cover it!! so...Ppl really think about getting tattoos before getting it....Unfortunately we live in a world were people get judged by appearance too!!

Cassie says:

small ones are okay depending on where they are but those big stupid ones that people get accross their head or face are not okay ... They are very stupid peopl ... What the hell were they thinking?

yoyo says:

I'm fine with mine, but I have friends who will definitely regret theirs later one. Here's one: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs210.snc4/38822_103161773074567_100001422341297_21486_3499797_n.jpg

Sandra says:

I think we have regrets unless we pick something that has a lasting symbolic value. If we get a tattoo without a very important significance about who you are or what you've become, then it can easily be regrettable down the line.

No way, Monkeybrain! LOVE my tats!

davies86 says:

i like my tattoos, besides my son is learning the art of tattooing and did mine and I'm proud of them

Taylor says:

It's amazing how ignorant some people can be. Yes if you get a tattoo for the fun of it and it doesn't have any significance, yeah you more than likely will. However if you get something that holds a special meaning to you, is incredibly important and special to you and something you know you'll love for as long as you live, then by all means go ahead. I'm about to get my first one, and it's something that's very close to my heart that I know I'll continue to love as I get older. Tattoos can be beautiful works of art, some people shouldn't be so quick to judge

rkm89 says:

honestly, i do regret my first tattoo, but i love tattoos in general. my first tattoo is now covered in one of my own pictures. i designed all 5 of my tattoos and nothing in this world can make me hate my own artwork.

srioschavez says:

have 4 regret 0

Dan says:

This is directed towards "LoveClearSkin", please don't refer to tattoos as 'childish, ugly stains'. Seriously, be a little more respectful.

Sophie says:

Personally I think tattoos would give an old person so much character. Say you see an old man walking down the road with tattoo sleeves. You'll think to yourself he looks more badass than anything else. Technically all old people look the same, so why not add a bit of art to your body? As for now, just do what you want. Just make sure you're not an indecisive person. Think of an idea and wait ATLEAST a few months and if you still love the idea, go for it.

Zevlabs says:

Although I believe that people should not just get tattoos of what ever.. It should have some kind of significance. I love mine.

IhaveAbrain says:

I would never get a tattoo. I would NEVER be with a woman who had tattoos. I instantly think of trash. This speaks volumes about a person (to me). Do you think "your future" kids will be getting tattoos? No way. They will do what you did when you were young -> The opposite of their parents did? Today's tattoos have "marked a generation"... And when I think ahead to when these marked people are in their 60,70 and 80's? I get on scary visual. It will be like a 60's child still wearing tie-dye shirts with faces painted with flowers. Sure, go ahead and do it... I'll need a good laugh when I get older...

cocktailsexaminer says:

I love tattoos, but don't currently have as many as I would like. Sure, some thought should be made in reference to the future (more so for offensive tattoos, for instance) but they are overall becoming more socially acceptable.

speaktolearn says:

I'm about to have one and I'm 24 so I don't think so I'll regret.

ajilcliaen says:

I love my tattoos, but who knows how I'll feel in 30, 40, 50 years. I try to live without regrets, like I'm sure a lot of people do. All of my tattoos represent a very good time in my life, and they're all easily concealable when I have to look professional. I'll worry about tattoo removal if I decide on it, but not doing something because you'll hate it when you're a grandma doesn't sound logical enough for me.

vez says:

who gives a shit if they sag when your aged 4000 an half dead. lifes too short just do it!! you'll look back at your life an think, jesus i was some lame bastard.

clair says:

You're not gonna be sexy at 80, so why care what your tattoo is going to look like while you're 80? Tattoo's are art! They are memories!! I've seen so many beautiful tattoo's, so many bad ones.It is your body, your canvas to decorate as you please, whether that be with tattoos, piercings, or nothing but clothes! Go for it :)

Kelsey says:

My father has had a tattoo since he was 18 and he regrets it. The reason WHY is because he decided to get one just for the fun of it. He grew up back in the 60's and 70's so it's a different story than it is now. When he got his tattoo, there was nothing to back up why he got it, just the fact of getting one. It's of a panther on his right bicep. That's the only tattoo he got and apparently the only one he'll ever get.
He tries to push it down on me (Oh you'll regret it one day). Personally, I've had my tattoos for about 5 years. It's a decent size, takes up half of my back. Japanese Cherry Blossom with "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter" carved in the "bark" of the tree in Japanese. I don't think I will ever regret it. When I'm old and I become all wrinkly, I'll look at the tattoo and be happy with what I did because you only live once.

Cinnamonbite says:

I have a, "Golden Dragon." Historically, when sailors crossed The International Date Line into China, they got this tattoo. Well, I went to Japan so mine has cherry blossoms! Kawaii! I'm nearly 50 now. How much longer, do you think, before I regret it? If you don't have a good reason to get body-art and don't think about consequences (tats are forever), then of course you'll hate it in a year. And you'd be a fool to have gotten one in the first place.

Matty says:

Tattoos are such a personal thing no one can tell you how much you'll regret them in the future or how much you won't .. that being said i think that your body is such a small part of your idendity. Your tattoos are stories that brought you the person you are today. If you are thinking of getting whole sleeves before ur 20th birthday many years of thinking should back up that desicision.

123 says:

I have about 20 tattoos now, I've had them for years and I don't regret them one bit.

udemedgreat says:

Tattoos are not good,as a christian, God dislikes it and He warns us not to be involved in it.The ideas is from Satanic kingdom and it's sign that the mark of the beast is real.
