Travelocity
Founded in 1996 as a subsidiary of Sabre Holdings, Travelocity became a pioneer in the running of web-based disintermediation, becoming the first website that allowed consumers to have access to American Airline's fare and schedule information, as well as having the ability to reserve, book and purchase tickets without needed a travel agent. As well, it was the first website that gave users the ability to book packaged vacations, rental cars and hotel rooms.
With the creation of Expedia and Orbitz in 2002, business suffered but Travelocity continued to preserve and remain the best travel website on the internet through its excellent user interface and ability to find the best deals for all of its Travelocity customers.
Currently, the mascot of the company is The Roaming Gnome, which is often used in radio commercials and a few television commercials. This coupled with the slogan of You will Never Roam Alone, shows that the website is one that is committed to providing quality customer service.
In 2004, it was the runner up for Best Online-only agency in the Travel and Tourism Web Awards.
With such a storied internet history, it is no surprise that Travelocity has proven to be so incredibly popular among its users. Through its ability to find the best deals for its clients, it has made vacations for individuals something that can truly be enjoyed, without the worry of spending too much money on the flight or hotel. As a result, it makes things much easier for everyone and millions of people have Travelocity to thank for their wonderful vacations.
