There are many options available for online tax help and tax software. You can pick one from a store, or buy one to download online.

Tax Act- offers free federal tax returns on their websites for most clients without going to the IRS website first. They are a little bit behind on filing of states taxes and software updates, but still a great choice for filing your taxes.

CompleteTax is another good online solution. It automatically checks for omissions and errors to avoid penalties.It’s quick and easy, and may even speed up your refund. Complete Tax fills out all the state and federal forms you need, performs all the calculations, and sends your return directly to the IRS electronically.

Most of these are available online. There are usually a few options available when you buy a tax software though. There are different forms each one will do and different prices you will pay.

Each one of the softwares offers an introductory basic tax return. This will take the basic information. Your name and address, your dependants, income etc. This is where you will list your jobs and the income from them and your w-2's. For many people this will be all you need to file your taxes.

There may be an additional fee to e-filing with the software so you might want to check the software out before you buy it, if at all possible, and read the whole box.

The next tax software level would most likely be small businesses. If you own a small business you would need to have this package. If you are an independent contractor you might also need this package, again make sure you read the box.

The box should say whether or not it will help you with having employees, write offs for your business and other expenses, such as vehicle expenditures.

The highest level of a tax software would be some kind of corporate, or multiple use program. You should only buy this if you are going to be filing multiple tax returns or you have other use for the features included in the program. If you do not have specific training in accounting or having your own business you should most likely consult with someone who is trained or licensed to do taxes.

Many companies such as H&R Block have guarantees that also apply to their tax software. Most of these companies also offer online tax filing that could be a bit simpler than using the tax software purchased in stores.

Either way you do your taxes most local tax preparers will probably check over your taxes for a small nominal fee if you are concerned about them being right after using software or the Internet. This is just an option, but it might help your piece of mind later on.

Is it very hard to file taxes online?

It is not usually the people that have used the internet for filing taxes that ask the questions. In fact, almost all of the time the questions come from people that have never filed taxes before other than the old fashioned way; which is by filling out all the forms and using a booklet. Another program that is great for filing taxes online is the TurboTax software/website. In fact, there are now millions of people that use TurboTax each year to file their taxes! However, the only difficult thing about TurboTax is deciding which program it is that you need to file your taxes! Other than that, TurboTax is super easy to use!
