Tea Tree Oil Remedies for Sunburn

Most of us enjoy sunbathing, but none would like sunburn. Tea tree oil is a proven remedy for sunburn. Tea tree oil, one of the strongest natural antiseptic is an essential oil that can be obtained by steam distillation of melaleuca alternifolia leaves. It is often known as the broad-spectrum product, which can destroy positive and negative bacteria as well as fungi without causing any damage to the skin. The oil penetrates the skin completely and kills bacteria as it moves towards the basal cell layer.

Tea tree leaves are used to heal skin cuts, burns and other infections. You need to crush the leaves and apply them to the affected area. Terpenoids are one of the most essential constituents of tea tree oils that have antiseptic and antifungal properties. It's grown in the islands of Australia and the South Pacific. Australian tea trees are considered to be the major source of tea tree oil. But there are shrubs that grow well in the wet coastal regions of Australia. They grow very fast and often reach to a height of 7 to 8 feet when they mature. Tea tree oil is light yellow in color and is produced by steaming the pine needle tea tree leaves. It forces out the oil, which is then used in medicines and also in the industrial lubricants and cosmetic products. It smells like nutmeg.

Some of the Sunburn Remedies Using Tea Tree Oil for Sunburn Are As Follows:

Dilute tea tree oil and olive oil or coconut oil in 1:10 ratio and spread completely over the affected areas. It helps relieve you from the pain caused by sunburn and reduces blistering and peeling. Besides, you can also combine tea tree oil with other cooling herbals like aloe to get some relief from burns. In order to prepare a blend of aloe and tea tree oil, you need to split a leaf of aloe, squeeze it out the gelatinous substance and mix a few drops of tea tree oil with it. Then pat it gently on the burned area and try to blow on it or sit in front of a fan to increase the cooling effect.

Tea tree oil, an essential oil can be very effective when combined with lavender oil. In order to make a blend of tea tree oil and lavender oil, mix 5 drops of tea tree and 11 drops of lavender oil along with three ounces of cool, distilled water. Then place this mixture in a bottle with a spray atomizer attachment and apply it on the sunburned areas whenever you require a cooling relief. In addition, you can also add a few drops of tea tree oil to vitamin E or aloe Vera lotion. Apply it at least five times a day to relieve the pain, redness as well as inflammation.

More often than not, people with sensitive skin are suggested to apply tea tree oil in its diluted form. It can also be mixed other types of oil like almond and wheat germ for a soothing effect. Besides you can apply cold water to remove the heat and then rub the oil mixture gently into the affected areas in order to help relieve itching and stinging that often accompanies sunburns.
