Teach Yourself To Play Violin

One of the biggest hurdles for me when I first started to learn how to play the violin was the fact that it doesn't have any frets. I had a basic understanding of how to play fretted instruments and always found it easy to get my position by looking at the fretboard.

The violin doesn't have any frets so I needed a "hack" to make my learning easier.

I just put a bit of tape on the correct spots so that I could practice having my fingers land in the correct position. After a certain amount of practice, I was able to remove the tape but it helped tremendously in the beginning.

As with any musical instrument, consistent practice is vital with the violin.

The learning curve is quite steep in the early lessons so it's very important that you set aside a specific time of day to sit in and practice what you've learned.

You ARE going to hear some sour notes when you first teach yourself to play violin so don't let this discourage you. It takes time and practice to perfect the technique required to play good, clean notes.
