Teacup Dachshunds

This is my fourth lens all about various Teacup Dogs, breeders, photos and general facts and products all related to these tiny canines.

This one however, is all about Dachshunds and nothing but Dachshunds!

Enjoy.......

Little Dogs - Big Name

But why so many??

Why does the tiny little dachshund have such a huge variety of names - more than any other breed?

To list all those I could come up with include - but is not exclusive to:

Dachund
Daschund
Dashhound
Dachsie
Doxie
Daxhound
Weiner Dog
Hot Dog
Sausage Dog

Although quite why it has so many is a mystery!

To add to this - or possibly the cause of this, there are 3 recognised types of dachshund for showing, each with 3 further divisions. Basically they are Standard, Miniature and Rabbit, each divided into Smooth, Long-Haired and Wire-Haired.

As the 'rabbit' type are the smallest (around 4-7lbs in weight and less than 10 inches in height) this is where out Teacup Dachsies come from!

Taking on a new Dachshund Puppy

Taking on a dachshund as a pet is a big commitment and should not be taken lightly. She will need attention, training, routine veterinary treatment, grooming and daily care and exercise.

Owning a dachshund is a lot like raising a child and in many ways requires the same commitment - he will need plenty of extra attention, continued care, never-ending love, gentle training and most of all - time and companionship. Your dachshund will view you as it's family, so it is important that the you accept your dachshund as a family member in the same way.

Although some dachshunds are fairly independent in nature and happy to amuse themselves for short periods of time (usually asleep), they are very sociable creatures, so it's not really ideal to get a little dachshund puppy if the poor little sausage is going to be left alone all day throughout the week while you are in the office.

Some dachshunds left alone for long periods of time will become bored and this can often lead to destructive or anti-social behaviour.

Your dachshund will always require (and enjoy) the daily care you give it now - and for the next 8-15 years. So in the same way that we give careful consideration to our future lifestyle, other commitments, and personal ambitions before starting a human family, buying your dachshund should be no less important.
