Team Cancer Warrior!

Thanks for supporting me in my fight against cancer!
What I didn't mention was the cost of fighting our fight. Because we had no medical insurance, we've had to dig deep (and I mean really deep) into our life savings to manage the bills for doctor visits, CT scans, minor surgeries (with major costs), lab tests, chemotherapy and radiation, and the subsequent follow-up visits which will go on for at least five years.
It's interesting what we've learned about being a "private pay" patient and I'll tell you a little bit more about that below. But in the meantime, I've decided to offer some items for sale through Zazzle, profits of which will be put toward the remaining bills. I've chosen this beautiful single daisy to represent the Cancer Warrior team. I wish I could give every one of my cheerleaders and supporters an entire bouquet of daisies, but that would be impossible. Wish I could give away t-shirts, but that isn't possible right now. Maybe someday I can do some of those things, but for now I can offer "Team Cancer Warrior" daisies on stickers, magnets, mouse pads, t-shirts, and more.
These are items that would make great gifts for birthdays, Christmas, or any occasion, and the quality is excellent. I wouldn't offer these if I didn't believe in the products themselves. Zazzle does great work! This isn't charity, so I can't offer you a tax deduction. (Wish I could!) These are just pretty designs that I think people will enjoy and can benefit from.
If you need to do some shopping for nice gifts, thanks for taking a look and giving these items some consideration! I hope you'll sign the guestbook at the bottom of the page to let me know you've stopped by, too. I truly, honestly, appreciate your time, any purchases and, especially, your continued prayers for me and my family.
If you don't have health insurance either, please take a moment to read this for some important information that could save your life.
P.S. To learn more about my and my family's battle with cancer, you'll find the whole story on my Cancer Warrior lens.
P.P.S. Click here to purchase "Team Cancer Warrior" postage stamps as shown above, or look below for the plain single daisy design.

Don't Have Medical Insurance?
If you have symptoms but don't have insurance, DO NOT HESITATE to
go to a doctor anyway. There are programs available to lighten the burden and help with
your medical bills.
Hesitating to seek treatment could cost you your life!
I Have Symptoms but No Health Insurance!
What should I do?
Here's my advice: Call a doctor today! Explain your symptoms and your insurance situation and if the doctor's office personnel cannot help you, ask them to guide you to someone who can help you know what to expect as a self-pay patient.
An initial office visit often is not as expensive as you might think. Make it a point to ask for a self-pay discount. I have no insurance and the smallest discount I've gotten on any doctor bill has been 15 percent, and most discounts have been higher.
Hospitals and clinics and most doctors' offices have personnel who are there specifically to aid you in finding support to help pay your medical bills, and they will work with you to work out a payment plan, even with very expensive procedures.
NEVER let the fact that you have no money or little income delay your decision to seek medical attention, especially if you have symptoms of something serious. Putting off treatment could cost you your life!
Just make that initial call. I was scared, too, but after putting it off for several weeks, I finally mustered up the courage to call and am I ever glad I did. My cancer had not spread to other organs and was treatable. Every doctor's office has worked with us to reduce our bill - and not a single person I've talked to (and I've talked to quite a few) has been short with me or rude or chastised me in any way for having no insurance.
Despite the bad press that doctors and hospitals often receive (and no doubt some is deserved) there are people who truly want to help you get well. I, frankly, have been overwhelmed with the support we've received and the kindness of nearly everyone we've had to deal with through a half dozen doctors and many, many more assorted medical and support personnel. I will be forever grateful to each and every one of them.
So what are you waiting for? Pick up the phone and call - right now!

POLL: Do you like daisies?
I love daisies, how 'bout you?
In the movie "You've Got Mail," Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) says to Joe Fox (Tom Hanks), "I love daisies. They're the friendliest flower. Don't you think daisies are the friendliest flower?" I think the two daisies in the picture above are friendly, and beautiful. (Click on the picture to see or order the art print.)

- Thanks for sharing this lens. I have a heart condition and am too young for Medicaid - the COBRA monthly fee is KILLING me! In 3 years I can get Medicaid but for now it costs me over $400 a month to be insured and I also paid $66 yesterday just from my prescriptions. We really need reform in our medical system.

- Susan I love the message and the products to promote them. Your message on even if you don't have insurance go to the Dr. anyway or you could lose your life hits home right now. A friend passed very suddenly from what could very well have been prevented by having gone to the Dr. No insurance is hurting so many people...

Whenever you see a daisy,
think of me, my brother, and everyone else who has battled this disease - and send good thoughts or say a prayer.
We'd appreciate it!
