Why your team is as important as your product
It's no secret that to get ahead in network marketing you need a great product. What isn't as crystal clear when you first start out, is the importance of your team, and in particular your upline. If you're in MLM and this doesn't immediately make sense to you, then read on.
When you first joined your MLM company, you were probably overwhelmed with all the possibility before you. If you were like me you believed every half-truth your upline ever told you - for example "it will sell itself" or "everyone is your prospect." You did everything they said, made your three contacts a day, drove your family crazy, held home parties etc... and probably had some marginal success. Not so bad right? Not at first. Then the warm market got kinda saturated - I ran out of people to talk to.
Now don't get me wrong, I had and still have a very strong, encouraging and successful upline, and I still have an amazing product that I believe in and now GIVE to my friends and family. What I didn't have was an upline with knowlege of the "new school" ways to market a product... someone who could teach me about online internet marketing.
When I started realizing that to be a network marketer truly did mean there would be some degree of 'cold calling' involved, I was dissatisfied... there had to be a better way. And with a compensation plan like my company offers, quitting simply wasn't an option - I had to keep tending to my newly found money tree! ;)
I love the concept of network marketing - of people helping people. I love that when I work hard and get paid, my upline gets paid. I love even more that when I work hard, the people I have mentored get paid. But what I absolutely love is that working hard no longer means finding ways to work my product into conversations with friends, bugging my family, calling my massage therapist (now you know they're calling me right?!)
Now my market is a little place called the internet, and there are more than enough people out there with a vision like mine who will contact me when they realize there's a great product, no nonsense and an amazing and prosperous business, which I am going to help them build each step of the way.
So if you've been struggling in network marketing, STOP. Pick up the phone and give me a call. Knowledge is half the battle
Imagine how successful you'd be if someone just showed you how to do it
Network marketing can be hard work. It can be fun and rewarding as well, but for myself at least, the first few months were hard. I had some success, but not in the big way I knew even then was possible.After spending A LOT of money on guides and training to become a great network marketer let me share some knowledge I wish I'd had: Don't spend your money on guides and training... lol
All joking aside, there is a lot of information out there - some of it good, A LOT of it not so good. Your best chance for success is to partner with someone who has experienced success in online network marketing, and let them show you the ropes.
What I have learned through my journey to success is that you definitely need to have drive and determination to make it in this industry. WIthout those two things you're sunk and no amount of mentoring is going to get you anywhere. But armed with patience and the resolve to become successful NO MATTER WHAT, a mentor is just what you need to get you on the fast-track to online success...

Why it could make all the difference
Because I'm talking from my own experiences I'll use an example from my first year of online marketing.My first website was my associate site that's provided as part of my annual associate fee to my company Isagenix. I worked so hard on that single page, writing and rewriting my story, adding photos etc. I felt like this was the sweetest marketing tool in the world - sending my VERY OWN link to my family and friends so that they could see my amazing transformation.
There were two problems with this - lets explore:
1) The associate website did not provide a clear way for people to join without contacting me... ok that doesn't sound so bad. The problem is that if a new customer is ready to buy and can't get a hold of you, because you're taking a shower, that urge may pass never to return again. They might close the webpage and never go back to your link again. In internet marketing it is absolutely IMPERATIVE that site visitors have a clear and easy way to join, without ever having to speak to you if they don't want to.
2)Associate websites are cookie-cutter images. You along with the hundreds of thousands of other associates in your company all have one, and as a result no search engine is EVER going to pick yours out of the crowd. Which brings me back to problem 1. Those people who you send your link to, or talk to the product about are inevitably going to go to Google and type in the company name. Guess who's info WILL NOT come up. That's right - YOURS. But they will find the company, and they will be able to sign up without you. You'll have made a sale for someone else and not even know it.
What does this have to do with mentorship? Everything! You see if I'd have had a mentor, I'd never have wasted time setting up this site, sending the link around or thinking that my business was going to start growing any second just by virtue of the fact that I was on the world wide web.
What you need to realize is that there are many things that you and I don't even know we don't know. Think about it for a second. A good example of something you might not know is how to set up a website - I know how to do that, but only because I've spent countless hours of my life researching and doing. Maybe you already know how to set up a website - but do you know how to make sure Google and the other search engines find it? That's another example of something I didn't know, but have battled my way up the learning curve and now am quite good at.
My most basic message to you is this: Do not try to reinvent the wheel. There are lots of people already successful in online marketing, and many of them (myself included) would be happy to take some time and show you how to become successful yourself. After all, those of us in network marketing have a real love of the business, and the more we can create success and show integrity to others, the more successful we become ourselves. It's win win.
