Battle of the Brews: tea versus coffee

Tea and coffee are the most popular hot drinks in the world, so it's only natural that there's a big rivalry between the two. When talking about tea, it's great health benefits are usually mentioned; on the other hand, coffee companies often emphasize the energizing effect that it has. I'm sure you've seen plenty of ads about how antioxidants in the green teas help your body and prevents various illnesses, or how nothing wakes you up in the morning better than a cup of hot coffee. However, let's put all that marketing fluff aside for a bit, and talk about what you prefer!

GoopMeow says:

Tea has health benifits, more diverse in it's 'non flavored' varieties, and doesn't make you jittery. Tea is awesome.
There is such a variety of tea times, from white, green, oolong, black.. and each type varies by region and how it is processed. I compare travel of flavor.. kind of like exploring single malt scotch or wines.

In my opinion, Tea is just more refined taste.

StephanieB-Writer says:

I'm a southerner so nothing is better to me on a hot sunny day (or any day for that matter) than a refreshing glass of home brewed sweet tea. My grandmother always brewed hers with a little mint from her garden and it was so refreshing.

I really like both but I'm gonna have to pick tea because that's what I drink most. I really do think tea has a slight health advantage and usually less caffiene.

diggyisking says:

Wow...huge debate.
The best of course is just water, but organic green tea takes its place above coffee and other teas. I say organic because you don't want to use teas that have been treated with pesticides! :)

I drink tea every day and I drink coffee when the weather is cold.

Andrew says:

Coffee gives me the jitters if I drink it in the morning right after waking up, so I prefer tea.

Everything About Tea

A great article on tea from Wikipedia.

Tea is the agricultural product of the leaves, leaf buds, and internodes of the Camellia sinensis plant, prepared and cured by various methods. "Tea" also refers to the aromatic beverage prepared from the cured leaves by combination with hot or boiling water,Webster's Third New International Dictionary and is the common name for the Camellia sinensis plant itself.

After water, tea is the most widely-consumed beverage in the world. It has a cooling, slightly bitter, astringent flavour which many enjoy.

The four types of tea most commonly found on the market are black tea, oolong tea, green tea and white tea, all of which can be made from the same bushes, processed differently, and in the case of fine white tea grown differently. Pu-erh tea, a post-fermented tea, is also often classified as amongst the most popular types of tea.

The term "herbal tea" usually refers to an infusion or tisane of leaves, flowers, fruit, herbs or other plant material that contains no Camellia sinensis.Dictionary.com search Herbal tea. Retrieved February 15, 2007. The term "red tea" either refers to an infusion made from the South African rooibos plant, also containing no Camellia sinensis, or, in Chinese, Korean, Japanese and other East Asian languages, refers to black tea.

Everything About Coffee

Informative article about coffee on Wikipedia.

Coffee is a brewed beverage prepared from roasted seeds, commonly called coffee beans, of the coffee plant. They are seeds of "coffee cherries" that grow on trees in over 70 countries. It has been said that green coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world behind crude oil.https://www.dunkindonuts.com/aboutus/credentials/TreeCup.aspx Due to its caffeine content, coffee can have a stimulating effect in humans. Today, coffee is one of the most popular beverages worldwide.

It is thought that the energizing effect of the coffee bean plant was first recognized in the south west of Ethiopia, and the cultivation of coffee expanded in the Arab world.

The earliest credible evidence of coffee drinking appears in the middle of the fifteenth century, in the Sufi monasteries of the Yemen in southern Arabia. From the Muslim world, coffee spread to Italy, then to the rest of Europe, to Indonesia, and to the Americas.

Coffee berries, which contain the coffee bean, are produced by several species of small evergreen bush of the genus Coffea. The two most commonly grown species are Coffea canephora (also known as Coffea robusta) and Coffea arabica; less popular species are liberica, excelsa, stenophylla, mauritiana, racemosa. These are cultivated primarily in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Once ripe, coffee berries are picked, processed, and dried. The seeds are then roasted, undergoing several physical and chemical changes. They are roasted to varying degrees, depending on the desired flavour. They are then ground and brewed to create coffee. Coffee can be prepared an...

I absolutely love green tea! I occasionally drink coffee, but I don't enjoy it all that much. The vampire dude in my avatar prefers blood though.
