Adaptation
= Assimilation + Accommodation
Assimilation involves overall management of a diverse set of technological solutions to ensure fitness
- Fitness with one another
- Fitness with overall policy objectives
- Fitness with the capacity and culture of the organization and people
Accommodation involves overall management of the organization and people to make best use of the available or mandated technical solutions.
- Adjustment of organizational structures and procedures
- Individual and organizational learning
- Pacing change to the current capacity of the organization - while developing future capacity
- Feedback to policy and planning
Principles
Technology Change Management is too important to be left to technologists
An engineering mindset is a valuable asset for successful projects - sometimes necessary but never sufficient. But even engineers themselves sometimes find it hard to accommodate large-scale technical change in their own working practices.0 points
Technology Change Management usually falls into two disconnected halves
Technology Management operates with a simplistic view of people and organizations. Change Management operates with a simplistic view of technology.0 points
Without adequate Technology Change Management, both sides may be faced with an unending set of impossible demands
Technology Management generates demands on people and organizations, while Change Management generates demands on technology solutions and technical staff. We call this loop DEMANDING SOLUTIONS.
(This loop is a special case of the vicious circle we call DEMANDING CHANGE. People demand changes of various kinds, and changes themselves make demands on people.)0 points
