Some bloggers have experienced difficulty ensuring that Technorati indexes their posts in a timely fashion.  However, there are some fairly simple things bloggers can do to increase the likelihood that their posts will be properly indexed by Technorati and other search engines.

Disclaimer:  Following the process outlined here resolved the lensmaster's difficulties with Technorati but, as always, "your mileage may vary."

Tips for Making Your Blog Technorati-Friendly

  • Ensure that the HTML code for your blog is valid. The blog templates for most weblogging services are properly coded, but many bloggers have incorporated invalid HTML into their sites by using self-written code or coded buttons provided by blog directories or feed aggregators. To check the validity of your HTML code, use the W3C Markup Validation Service and resolve any failures noted by the program.
  • Ensure that your RSS feed is valid. Use Feed Validator to ensure that your RSS feeds are valid.
  • Publish full posts, not excerpts or summaries, in your RSS feed. It is generally believed that Technorati's search engine "prefers" full post feeds. You have a much better chance of your posts being properly indexed and including all of your tags (particularly if they are placed at the end of the post).
  • Ping Technorati manually. Pinging through Ping-O-Matic and other similar services work fine for some. Others claim you must ping Technorati manually, from its Ping Form.
  • If you're having trouble logging into Technorati, delete your cookies. At times, you may have difficulty logging into your Technorati account. If so, use the tools provided with your web browser to delete your cookies. That should resolve the issue.
