Teddybears started from cartoon drawing...

According to tradition the teddybear got it's start as a cartoon. It was drawn by a man named Clifford Berryman and the drawing was titled "Drawing the Line in Mississippi". The drawing was inspired by President Roosevelt refusing to fire at a real bear calling it a helpless target. Berryman was inspired to draw his cartoon around the fact that Roosevelt was settling a border dispute as well as refusing to shoot a helpless animal. The drawing depicted a cute faced bear not a wild fierce looking bear. Thus, the teddybear became popular!

I have a little teddybear
his name is cuddly 'Sam'
he sits upon my bedside chair
and wears a little tam
his clothes are made of yellow felt
his shoes are made from leather
around his waist he wears a belt
and in his hand's a feather
he's been my friend since I was one
we played a lot together
without him I don't know what I'd of done
He's my friend in stormy weather
