Choosing your first bra

Loads of girls are worried or embarrassed about choosing their first bra.

Whether your mum is supportive or not, it's important that you should choose when you start wearing a bra and are happy with the style, colour and fit.

If you're starting to feel embarrassed about your budding breasts, then it's probably the right time to go out and buy that first bra. Even if you don't feel that you've got much to cover up - you can still feel self-conscious at school if everyone else is wearing a bra and you aren't yet.

Girls can start wearing bras from as young as 9 or 10, whilst others don't start to really need one until they're 15 or 16.

The most important thing is that you should feel comfortable - whatever age or size you are - if you'd feel happier wearing a bra, then it's time to grab mom and go shopping!

However, during the first few years whilst your body is still growing and changing, it's important to wear well-fitted, supportive underwear.

Hey, I'm Going to get a training bra tonight, and my DAD and my BROTHER are coming too. I'm so embarressed, because were going to La Senza.... I'm scared, and Weirded out by this. What should I do????? I'm kind of Relieved because my moms coming too. Its my whole family coming.

I feel like the only one without a cupped bra.. It's not that I need one at all, but I'm 12, in 6th grade and everyone has a cupped bra but me! I'm not nervous about asking at all, I have practice bras... I just feel so behind!!!

I dont have any bras, but my mom has talked to me about it before and said she was going to take me to get some. She never did. I am really mad, but I am going to try to ask her next time it is just me and her in the car. Wish me luck. :)

Hey, I was 12 when I first got my bra. I actually got it today. One day me and my mum were outside an she was like if you need bras just tell me okay don't be scared because you'll need them and we'll get you some. At that point I was like nah don't wanna talk about it mum ew. My developing nipples were showing through my shirts and it is embarressing! So when she was readin a book I went outside and was like hey mum can we go get some bras soon and every time she had the day off I asked and we finally go some! I am so excited to wear them! She was totally cool with it and totally supportive! I am so excited, I always wanted one.
It feels itchy at first, as I tried them on. But your skin has to adjust to elastic being wrappe around it everyday! I got 2 kind of like sports bras and 2 padded bras. They aren't wired but both are padded. I'm an 8AA! :P I'm Small but they're growing!

Today i got my first bra, i am 11 and i am really self consious about my "Breasts" bcause the other day i was wearing this baggy t-shirt and my brother said "By the way i can see yr nipple through that shirt so i asked my mum if i could go home staight away and i told herwhy and so she took me today, but next week i am going to ask her if i can get a t-shirt bra, but i am really nervous. > _ < wish me luck

this was a year ago . when my elder sister brought a gift to me and asked me to open . i thought it was some watch or some thing but when i opened it was a pink coloured bra . i was so exited . but just infront of her i was cool . later i told her that i was really looking for the bra . but i was shying to tell her this to mom . she replyed me i know that why i have gifted you the bra. really i started wearing my first bra i feel so comfortable and also i compete to my friends which were alrady using . now a year over . now my bra size is 32 .haaaaaaaaaa

This was around a year and a half ago. I was 11 years old and I could just barely fit a 34 AA (I'm 32Anow). I remember I was really excited about getting a bra for the first time, so I started dropping hints to my mom. my mom is really good with hints, and yes, she was supportive. I started with no cups or padding or wire. I was stilla little self-conscious, though, because all my friends were bigger than me, though....
Now i'm 12 and a half and I have recently purchased a lightly lined, wired bra at Victoria's Secret....

I started wearing a bra when i was 11 and a half. my chest had only just started to develop and most of my friends already wore bras. i really wanted one! one time me and my mum went shopping at target and we went to the kids underwear section because i told my mum i wanted to buy some new singlets. while i was pretending to look, my mum spotted some bras and said 'those are cute'. i got so excited inside but acted cool on the outside and didnt say anything. then she said 'when are you thinking about wearing one?' and i answered ' i dunno whenever you want me to' and then she said 'would you like to get some today instead of those singlets?' i said 'ok' .. so she bought me 3 new bras! and then in the car i told her i was just pretending to look for singlets and that i was really wanting a bra ;) hahaha she just laughed

I'm 13 and in year 8, I had wanted a bra for YEARS and it started at about year 4/5, sOme of the girls in my year ha already started wearing crop tops and "little girls" bras, and they were really awesome to me at the time. I felt very self consiouse cause I was a "late bloomer" and I was nervous about asking my mum. In year 6 around the end of the year I said to my mum " hey can I get some new singlet tops because i need to wear something underneath my shirt because it's a bit see through and my singlets are a bit tooo small" she said ok, so we went to the shops and got some singlets and then she looked at the crop tops and said would you like one? And I said "well it might be a bit cooler for playing sport and stuff so she bought me one and I treasured it,thor a few weeks and then figured out that alot of the girls were wearinh padded bras and then I felt bad again. Anyways Christmas that year I opened my presents and I got two bras! They weren't padded or underwired they were just fabric that hooked up at the back and I was really excited. Then I went to hight school and me and my BFF and a few other girls were like the only girls without REAL bras. I REALLY wanted a padded bee sooooo badly, every time I went to the shops I would just try and control my mum with my mind and make her get me a padded bra (lol) I was still pretty much flat as a board ad it was soooo embarrassing :/ the next year (this year) in September I got my first period and that very day my mum and I went shopping and by that time I gave up on the whole boob thing and accepted that I would be flat forever, soo we walked past the bra section and she was like " I'm thinking of getting you some new bras", and I was like yea ok my old ones are getting a bit small and she bought me 5, 10A bras!!! I was soooooo happy!!! I couldn't wait to wear them. Sooo yea I'm not as flat as I used to be XD. I finally fit in :) So girls your mum will buy you one when the time is right, and iit could be when you least expect it!!!

Hey everyone, so you're going to hear a story of the first bra I wore... When i was 10 it was Christmas and my most unloving and distant cousin bought me this cute red bra! No cups, wire or padding, just a simple bra which must have been 8AAA haha! Anyways even though it was awkward because it was in front of everyone in my family it was still exciting, almost an initiation into adulthood. This bra made me feel heaps confident and proud because i was starting to be one of the girls in year 6 that was wearing a bra. Yes i wasn't the fastest developer but i felt that i fit in more. BTW, the bra straps didn't fit me at all! My mum was so supportive in this and first bought me crop tops instead of a proper cup bra. When i reached year 7 i started wearing bras more frequently and switched to the preteen bras that have the triangle shape but no wire or padding. My mum helped me a lot through this awkward stage of my life because she gradually gave me more sophisticated bras as i developed and grew bigger. When i hit year 8 i finally got to wear my first cupped bra! And good God i treasured that bra! I am currently in year 10, wearing fancy, stylish bras because i am quite busty. Honestly girls, don't rush into having bras, only ask your mum or become concerned if you feel you are at that budding stage, not because your friends are starting to wear bras. I PROMISE YOU YOUR MUM WILL BE SUPPORTIVE BUT MOST OF ALL HONEST, SO DON'T GET HURT IF SHE SAYS YOU'RE NOT READY, TRUST HER AND JUST WAIT! BOOBS ARE A NUISANCE! HAHA

im 14 n my mom still dosent talk bout me wearing a bra!and so i bought myself 1 wen i was wit my friend!n her mom wont evn let her wear a bra wen shes 17! and so i use my bra only wen im wit friends cuz otherwise my mom will find out n im scared cuz i dont no wat 2 do if she finds out!

Im 13 and i got my first real padded bra when i was 11. I wanted one really bad but i was too scared to ask. Then we went to a store and my mom asked me if i wanted one and i did so i got two. Then last summer i wanted to get more but my mom said i didnt reallY need them. But like 3 months later we went to this awesome store with clothes and bras and my mom found me a really cute pink leopard print bra that was padded with underwire, and it fit me perfectly :) My older sister also gave me her bras that were too small for her. A few days ago my mom said she found some cute bras at walmart that she wanted to buy me but she didnt know my size...so i told her and im excited because i think she might get me some for Christmas!! bras make me feel more confident, plus everyone in my class wears padded bras. If ur too embarrassed to buy your first bra, dont be!!! Because your mom will understand, she was your age once too!! Hope this helped ;)

I am in 6th grade and i think i need a training bra or a sports bra but am scared to ask my mom! I have gym next 2 marking peroids and you are not allowed to change in stalls, PLEASE HELPP!!!!

don't worry I got my first bra in grade 4 and my mum was totally supportive and it was not as awkward as you may think!! :D
