How Teens Can Make Money

Every teenager needs money. Whether it's for cinema tickets, CDs, clothes or games- there's always something! Parents aren't always willing to provide the money you think you need, and it appears to be impossible to make money yourself. But is it really?

Jobs

There are loads of jobs that teenagers can do - because adults don't want them.
Teenagers can provide errands, such as washing cars or windows, mowing lawns, raking yards, and gardening. Post fliers through doors (if it's legal in your area) and tell neighbours. You can charge from $5-20 per hour.

You could offer to tutor kids or help them with their homework. If you're a talented student you could provide extra lessons for students and you can charge $10-20 an hour. Worksheets can be printed off the internet and children's books can be bought cheaply in charity shops. You could also offer classes in musical instruments or computer skills.

You could also offer to look after neighbour's pets while they are away, or walk them. If you like animals, it's an added bonus, and although this job won't pay much, if you enjoy it , it is very easy.

You can sign up for paper round around your neighbourhood. These can pay $10-40 a week, depending on how many papers you hand out.

If you know some parents that need a babysitter, you could offer to help them out by looking after their child in the evening. This can be very easy, but sometimes there can be complications - especially if the child is very young.

In the summer, there may be available positions as life guards in local swimming pools. If you're a strong swimmer this can be a possibility, with some pools paying up to $10 an hour.

Word-of-mouth and advertising are important when providing services. You can let your relatives know with emails, or post flyers through people's doors. Stores might even let you put an advert in their window.

Business

Crafts
If you're crafty, you could sell your products at craft markets or online at places like Etsy. However, make sure your products are really worth paying for, and make sure you cover all your costs and time in the price.

Home-made produce
You could grow a vegetable patch and sell fruit or veg from it, or bake cookies and sell them round the neighborhood or at school.

Reselling
This is a very profitable option. It involves buying items, such as chocolate bars or soda, in bulk, and selling on. You could buy a 40 pack of chocolate bars for $16, and they are valued at 40 cents each. If you sold them at 80 cents each, you would be making a 100% profit! However, make sure you're not breaking any rules if you sell them at school!

Make sure you keep track of your expenses and earnings so you can keep track of where your money goes and what products sell well.

Online

Paid Blogging
By setting up a blog and being sponsored by sites like PayPerPost, a teen blogger can bring in a decent allowance of $15-40 a month.

Paid Surveys
Sites like CashCrate can earn you money for filling out surveys from sponsors. It is said that people can earn $50 a month from these.

Writing Articles
Writing articles like these can earn you money! Squidoo gives you revenue from the advertising. Other sites like Helium are great, because they pay you for writing and then again from the advertising.

Spending Money

All the money may come in quickly, but you need to be careful not to use it all up at once. Consider whether you'd want to buy the magazine today, or the laptop in 6 months time.
