What is Automotive Telematics?

This lense is about telematics technology and telematics information.  It includes some of the different telematics devices and systems and how they affect our business and professional lives.

Telematics Is Automotive Telematics 

Telematics: The combination of telecommunications and
computing - data communications between systems and
devices.

The term "Automotive Telematics" has evolved to refer to
automotive systems that combine global positioning
satellite (GPS) tracking and other wireless communications
(GSM: SMS & GPRS) for remote diagnostics and other
fleet management applications.

Today most of the major commercial vehicle manufacturersare equipping new prototype vehicles with wireless-basedservices. This kind of telematics could enable motorists toperform a variety of wireless functions such as accessingthe Internet, receiving or sending e-mail, downloadingdigital audio and video files, or obtaining "smart"transportation information.
