When I decided to add a series of expert telesemiars to my offering I had a great deal to learn and if you've never arranged a teleseminar before it can seem a bit daunting to get started.
I researched on my own but found that the quickest way to educated myself was by participating in a teleseminar coaching series on how best to put a teleseminar together that was lead by Lou D'Alo. Contained in this lens are the 'nuts and bolts' of what I learned to get you started.
If you want to fast-forward your suceess I'd suggest signing up for one of Lou's programs where he shares the most up-to-date information on marketing and running a teleseminar program to boost your business.
Purpose of Your Teleseminar
- Each call should have only ONE purpose. This is often referred to as a "call to action". Your purpose may be to have the callers sign up for your mailing list, to buy a product, to sign up for a subsequent teleseminar. Decide what your purpose is and only have one desired action you want your callers to take at the end of the call.
Setting Up Your Teleseminar Web Page
Start with just a great headline and good copy. Stick with this simple format until you get at least 40% of people that arrive at the page signing up for the teleseminar. Until you get to that rate don't mess around with audio or video or fancy graphics.
A good headline and if needed a subhead followed by good copy is the most important element on this page. The copy might be listed at bullet points.
One big mistake that people make is to put the box for entering the email address "below the fold". This means that when a person arrives at the page that they cannot see it. Make sure your sign up box is visible.

More than just a Thank You page
In order to make the most of this page you might want to consider including the following items after your thank you message:
- Check your email for my confirmation and make sure to click on the link. Often times people don't know that there is an email coming and it may go into their junk mail. You don't want your customers to think that you didn't send them the call in information.
- Ask those that sign up for your teleseminar to tell their friends about this teleseminar. This could increase your attendance and your exposure.
- Have the callers do "homework" before the call. This could be downloading a report, an outline of the call or even to buy the product.
What's an "Ask" campaign and should I run one for my teleseminar
An "Ask" campaign is ask the people you are inviting to the teleseminar what their "most burning question" or "greatest challenge" is related to your topic. This helps you add to your knowledge about your customers and what they are looking for from you and your products.

800# versus Toll Call
Should you pay for the call or have your callers pay?
The answer is it depends. The costs of providing an 800# is .05-.10 per minute per person if you find an economical service. This doesn't sound like a great deal of money but if you have a successful turnout the call could cost you a couple of hundred dollars.
If you have tested your seminars and know that from the teleseminar you will make enough revenue to cover the cost of providing the line then by all means provide a free call but for many this probably will not be the case.
The information on the call should be valuable enough to your customers that they are willing to pay a couple of dollars to listen in.
Some people may still not call in because they don't have an economical long distance plan. Although today most people have unlimited calling included in a single monthly plan some people may not and having to pay for a toll call may dissuade them from calling.
You can let your callers know that there are services or calling cards that will cost them as little as .01 per minute when you send out your invitation email.
I do not refer callers to a particular provider because then you may end spending time fielding calls about the service that you are not prepared to handle or may not want to spend your time responding to but you will have to determine this for yourself.
