Teletubbies!

Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa, Po.
Teletubbies —Teletubbies— say hello!

When I first saw Teletubbies, I found their speech annoying. They talk like babies! I didn't think a little kid could understand them.

But then I watched the show with my toddler, and he loved it. He laughed and was just delighted when Dipsy wore his hat, or Laa Laa played with her ball.

That gave me a different perspective. My children all enjoyed watching it, and I began to enjoy the playfulness, affection, and surprises that come with every show.

Who are the Teletubbies?

Some say they're aliens, but whatever they are, these characters are colorful, exotic little toddlers who play and explore together, and "love each other very much."

Teletubbies!

Watch this video, and see what all the fuss is. The pace is slow and gentle, and the action simple enough for a young one to find it fascinating. (My current toddler comes and climbs into my lap when he sees me working on this page. He says "tebby-tubby!")

A Teletubbies Birthday Party

This site from PBS has everything you need to throw a great Teletubbies birthday party for your little one. All teletubbies birthday supplies: decorations for the walls, invitations to print, recipes for tubby toast, and even directions for a Teletubby birthday cake!

If you are looking for birthday gift ideas, there are teletubbies bedtime stories and lullabies, teletubbies christmas cd, teletubbies twin comforter, teletubbies games and teletubbies diapers etc.

Alternative Tubby Toast

Personally, I prefer to make a pancake-style Tubby Toast. If you're handy with cream cheese, the smile is easy. Otherwise, here's how to make the smile:

First, put smile-shaped batter in the pan, then pour the batter on top. The smile won't be white, but otherwise, they're cool.

When my little ones pointed out that it didn't really look quite like tubby toast, I just told them that we don't have the machine, so ours looks "homemade."

Tubby Custard!

It's a little known secret that Tubby Custard is actually very similar to the yogurt we have here on earth. It looks a bit striped here, but it's normally just pink.

Warning!

There is an episode where Tubby Custard gets all over the place, and noo-noo happily cleans it up. Better make sure your toddler knows that your Noo-Noo can't clean up Tubby Custard. Aren't toddlers great?

Noo-Noo

(Clever, huh?)

Noo-Noo is the Teletubbies' pet vacuum cleaner. I think it was very clever to give us a way to help kids get over any fear they might have, and learn to enjoy the vacuum. I used to say "Uh-oh! A mess! Let's go get our noo-noo!" Did it help? Maybe a little...

Teletubbies - Naughty Noo-noo! - Messy Messes and Terrific Tidying

Ah! See the pink stuff on the cover? That's Tubby Custard. It's a big mess, but don't worry. Noo-Noo's here!

Is Tinky-Winky gay?

Jerry Falwell says Tinky-Winky is gay, and I hear he's quite upset about it. Well, what he actually says is that Tinky Winky has gay features that may promote "homosexual acceptance" among children.

Let's face it. There are some definite indications:

1. He's purple. Gay people love purple. Don't they?
2. He carries a purse. All gay men carry purses, right?
3. His antenna is in the shape of a triangle.
4. In one episode, he wears a tutu!

So is Tinky Winky promoting gay acceptance?

I don't know, but if he is, I hope it works!

Teletubby Springtime Magic

Appearing and disappearing flowers, noo-noo's Tubby Custard bubbles, and watching real-life children who appear on the Teletubbies' screens make this one of my toddler's favorite things to watch. It's so cool to watch him giggle and jump up and down!

He's gonna be Po for Halloween

They say this fits about 18mo-2t, small toddlers, so I might need to keep looking. Hmmm.

Child's Red Teletubbies PO Costume (Size:Toddler 1-2)

Around $35, this costume is a keeper. It fits around 18mo-2t.

It's definitely worth clicking over to Amazon to see this, even if it's not the right size, because if you click on "more from this seller" you see a ton of really cute costumes like this...

Danielle

Ahhh, the Teletubbies! I'm 14, and I remember the Teletubbies so well! I just showed my mom the video on this blog, and all she said was "Oh no. Not those things again!" I love these "aliens" so much. I might even dress up as on for Halloween this year! Thanks for putting this up! Great Memories
