One Language

Engage in the City of Ladies Walking Tour as led by le Enchanteur.

And the whole earth was of one speech. The language of loss and grief was confounded too. The Temple of Solace is a place where people who have been scattered and made to feel isolated can be united by empathy.

Living with my husband's advanced cancer for many years proved challenging. Advanced cancer is a term to describe a metastatic cancer and is a cancer which is unlikely to be cured. One of the painful realities, when cancer will not go away, is that family and friends sometimes withdraw. For years I have converted the stress of 'living with cancer' to creative energy and the Soul Food Cafe is a product of that creative energy. More recently The Temple of Solace was borne out of a deep sense of loss over hurtful abandonment at a time of deep grief.

Here within the safety of this Temple people of all nationalities can learn the language of loss and grief, find comfort and solace and learn how to support others.

A Daily Ritual

Colour a Mandala

Carl Jung made it a daily practice to colour a mandala each day. Make it a ritual to have quiet time completing a mandala and use this time as a time to free your mind.

Guided Imagery

The creative benefits of guided imagery and creative visualization have been well documented. Make sure that when you come to the computer to do a guided imagery that you are comfortable, that you have some music playing or perhaps a candle burning. Before you start open Microsoft word and then minimize it, ready for when you have finished absorbing the scene.

Relax and try to visualize yourself being a part of the scene. Once you have finished reading and absorbing the scene simply begin to write. Do not try to control the outcome. Simply write.
Rose Meditation
Breathe in.
In your long walk
upon the earth
you see the truth
that is before us.
Each day's lesson
is lodged deep
within your bones.
Compassion pours
from your fingertips
You teach us.
Breathe out.
Tholos Dreaming
One of the most remarkable buildings of Asclepieia, in Ancient Greece, was a circular building with a labyrinthine basement, called the Tholos, or place of the altar, of sacrifice. In the Tholos at Pergamum, the labyrinthine lower storied had an artificial stream of running water through it. Here the healing power of dreams was clearly understood. Asclepieia usually appeared in the dream of the patient, conveying a message of healing. Today, when you carefully pick your way among the ruins that archeologists have carefully uncovered, there is little evidence of the stream. However, Epidaurus retains its healing essence. A tranquil sanctuary, Epidaurus is a restorative place to dream, to lie and mentally retrace the path pilgrims followed.
The Sacred Way - Delphi
Allow your mind to drift quietly to faraway Delphi where you sit by the stream of Castalia. Looking down to the plain below you note the dark-green olive trees, flecked with shadows.

Descansos

Traditionally Descansos (Spanish for 'place of rest') marked the place of loss. Often we pray that the one who has died will rest in peace. In truth it is those that are left behind that face the challenge of resting peacefully. This is my place of rest to mark my loss and celebrate the joy that we knew over a period spanning thirty seven years. Making Descansos a way to find peace.

Making Descansos

Making Descansos
I encourage people to make descansos by sitting down and remembering the significant milestones, by celebrating joy and mourning losses. Just as our ancestors drew on the walls of caves and sat around the campfires telling stories of triumph and tragedy we can engage in the transformative process of using story to help us in our Writes of Passage.
