Squidoo is a kind of 21st Century version of the Crystal; Bead Game first written about as a fictional novel by Hermann Hesse.

Magister Ludi The Crystal Bead Game (sometime translated as Glass Bead Game) was a novel written in 1943 by the German writer Hermann Hesse. In 1946 Hesse Received the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature for writing this novel about a Joseph Knecht, a fictional citizen of the future who lived in country of a future earth called Castalia.

Most of the Earth in this future world had been plunged into a new Dark Ages. The only place for this retro trand was a protected region, a city called Castilia.

Castalia was run by the master of the Crystal Bead Game. Sitting in a large room, Castalia members would explore magnificent associations of ideas and concepts in an annual competition. The aim of the games in the competing was knowledge in a world that had fallen apart spiritually, socially, and politically.

Hesse described the Bead Game as "a serial arrangement, an ordering, grouping, and interfacing of concentrated concepts from many fields of thought and aesthetics."

This game of the future Hesse wrote. . . had developed into a kind of universal language through which the players could express values and set these in relation to one another."

In the beginning the Thought Game was designed, constructed, and continually updated by a guild of mathematicians called Castalia. Later generations of hacks used the Bead Game for educational, intellectual and aesthetic purposes. Eventually the Bead Game became a global science of mind, and indispensable method for digitizing thoughts, clarifying thoughts and communicating them precisely.
