Find Your Unclaimed Money in Tennessee

The state of Tennessee is looking for the rightful owners of MILLIONS of dollars in unclaimed money.  Are you one of those owners?

Whether you're low on cash because you live in Memphis and your unhealthy Elvis obsession caused you to blow your funds on daily tours of Graceland, or you're a starving musician in Nashville who can't even afford to replace your guitar strings anymore, then you could certainly use some of that Tennesee unclaimed money, and there's a good chance you're owed a chunk of it!

We can't all afford to go to Vanderbilt!  Some of us would be happier than a pig in mud to be able afford pulled pork sammich.  If you identify with that second group, then you owe it to yourself to try to track down that unclaimed cash.
All sorts of people end up on the list- even State Agencies themselves have had Tennessee unclaimed funds in their name! "It's interesting, funny, that one state agency can't find another state agency to give them their money," says House of Representatives candidate Ron Hickman who decided to check if the State owed itself unclaimed money.

If the University of Tennessee, Department of Revenue, and Department of Commerce and Insurance came-up on the list of TN unclaimed money owners, chances are you or a someone you know might be too!

The TN State Treasury describes unclaimed property this way:

We may be holding property that belongs to you. Millions of dollars are turned over annually to the State of Tennessee by companies who cannot locate the owners. This property, in the form of money and securities, is from bank accounts, stock certificates, checks, unclaimed wages and other sources.

The state treasury goes on to explain a number of different sources of TN unclaimed money:

  • If you moved and forgot to notify your bank or broker of your new
    address.

  • If you left a job, but never returned to receive your last paycheck.

  • If you bought stock, placed them in a "safe" place, and forgot them.

  • If you had a distant relative who passed on, leaving an estate, but the heirs were never located.

  • If you overpaid a credit card bill but did not use the credit.

  • If you experienced an address change assigned to you for the 911 unique
address effort but you did not move.

  • If a regular account statement was inadvertently marked undeliverable
and was returned to sender in error.

  • If you have valuable accounts in a bank, with a broker or trader, trust
or other safekeeping agent that you have not contacted in the most recent
    four years.

  • If you received a check you did not cash.

  • If your forwarding order with the post office expired.

  • If you are holding bonds that were called or called early.

  • If you have in your possession a gift certificate, certified check,
cashier's check, or money order you haven't spent.

I continue to be shocked by the fact that many folks, still today, believe that unclaimed money must be some type of scam. I guess it's the old "nothing is free" mentality that prevents many people from accepting the reality, that BILLIONS OF DOLLARS are sitting in government bank accounts, earning them interest, even though that money belongs to people like YOU and me.

The reason unclaimed money is not a myth, is because it's not a "giveaway". It's simply reuniting money with is true owners, THE PEOPLE!

Never the less, despite all the mainstream coverage, some folks are still weary. For those who are still hesitant you might be more comfortable if you read up on the topic of unclaimed assets a bit more, before you really dive in:

Don't fall for the "unclaimed database" myths

Tip #1 - If an unclaimed money site claims to have a "national unclaimed money database", RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

No such database exists, and the searchable databases that many of these sites do use, are packed full of bogus information, intended to give false hope. Sometimes it even backfires and returns false negatives, where it says you aren't due a claim when you still might be! UnclaimedMoney.net will show you how to avoid being fooled.
