We Must Do More Than "TALK" in 2009

WHY DO WE NEED MORE WOMEN IN POLITICS IN 2009?

"It is impossible for individuals to remove themselves from the suffering of others without compromising the safety and security of the overall community." The Challenge to Act, pg 9, The Women's Institute for Policy Research, www.iwpr.org

As you can see we have much work to do!
.............................................................................................................................
WOMEN'S ISSUES:

* Ensuring we maintain control over our bodies and all decisions regarding pregnancy.

* Getting the ERA passed, so women can earn more than 77 cents for every dollar earned by men.

* Re-teaching the next generation of young women to expect to be leaders at work, in their church, and in their community.

............................................................................................................................
WORK-RELATED ISSUES:

* generating high paying U.S. jobs that can support a family, rather than low,minimum-wage jobs that foster criminal behavior among the poor to put food on the table! We hate crime and drugs, but we have offered very little by way of specialized free training or actual jobs to elevate the poor into the middle class.
* generating quality childcare for all single parents so they can finish high school, go to college, and find quality work to support their children.

* returning U.S. protectionism vs.sending U.S. jobs overseas to the lowest bidder which benefits a few big businesses, but destroys the American family and economy for the masses.

* fostering greater opportunities and resources for women to start their own business in states like TN that continue (year after year) to rank at the very bottom of the list.

.............................................................................................................................

FAMILY-RELATED ISSUES:

* encouraging families to save for the college of their choice w/out a savings cap that limits their children's educational choices.

* increasing housing for the poor to eliminate the growing numbers of homeless being taken care of by churches. Forty percent (yes, that's right 40%) of the homeless in America are families with small children. It is our national responsibility to take care of "our own" before preaching on human rights abroad; homelessness has become acceptable in all of our major cities with scare tactics of "socialism" encouraging people to be heartless.

* creating portable healthcare for all Americans identical to what our "government servants" now have. Why are they entitled to the best in healthcare, while a majority have to go without? or go into debt to obtain?

* diverting money from war to saving lives through research: AIDS, Cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, plus the orphan diseases always overlooked.

* eradicating child abuse and pedophilia

* eradicating child and adult pornography from the internet entirely

* inspecting all imported children's toys for safety before they are sent to stores

* creating free education programs to teach the English language to immigrants, since we wish to keep English as the 1st language of the U.S. It should be a part of the U.S. citizenry process and they should be given time to learn English (as the Germans, Italians, Polish, Norwegians..... and many others received) rather than being forced into an "English only" scenario.

* creating free education programs on how to parent at each stage of development to prevent abuse by children raising children.

* revamping of pharmaceutical industry pricing for benefit of the American people. Not allowing "vitamins" to be regulated by the pharma industry, while the drugs

* ensuring that genetically altered foods are labeled (so we can avoid them). Our body's inability to digest these altered foods may in fact be causing cancer and other debilitating diseases. Why shouldn't we know what is in our food? Why should Monsanto be allowed to rule the roost? Biotechnology and genetic engineering in agriculture are evolving in a total regulatory vacuum. Monsanto itself states,'Monsanto should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food'. 'Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible." (Women need to make clear that our children's safety is OUR first interest.)
............................................................................................................................

FREEDOM-RELATED ISSUES & GOVERNANCE:

* removing all overreaching executive orders that are in conflict with the U.S. Constitution: suspensions of habeas corpus, wiretapping, internet surveillance, etc. remove personal immunity on the part of government officials when they "redefine" our constitution. They are not above the law.

* retaining our identitity as the United States, rather than allowing transnational corporations to morph the world so as to be able to make even more profit by not having to follow each country's rules.

* tearing down all secret prisons in the U.S. and abroad which destroys our credibility as civil rights advocates and encourages terrorist attacks as retaliation.
* rectifying the lack of female representation in the Senate and House of Representatives and the Judiciary. We may have the vote but we are unfairly missing from the tables that make the decisions!

* And, most importantly, restoring a FREE PRESS that does not hide information from us in our own "best interest"
