Tenpin bowling is one of the top sports on the planet, with plenty of players playing the sport worldwide. This guide is to give you a little bit of the history of the sport, terminology, rules, scoring as well as links where you can buy bowling balls and equipment!
History of Ten Pin Bowling
Tenpin bowling can trace it's routes back to Eygpt, with the Egyptians first throwing balls at sticks nearly 3000 years ago, but the actual tenpin bowling game can trace it's origins from Germany. In Germany, in a town called Kegal, a nine skittle game was popular, and spread accross the continent and throughout America. However, local councils, working in inconjunction with the church - who were against large gatherings of people in large numbers - nine pin bowling was banned.
Ten pin bowling wasn't, so instead of bowling at a nine pin diamond, the game was changed to bowl at a ten pin triangle.
Bowling really grew in popularity after the second world war, as AMF bowling - famous for it's AMF Bowling Balls - inventing the automated pinsetters. As a result, bowling alleys were now cheap and easy to open, and began springing up all over America.
Nowadays bowling has become better and easier with automatic scoring, and the option to play some added games, as well as the option for bumpers for not as good players. All in all, it's a safe, family, fun game for all!
Rules of Bowling
How to play, score, and win.
The object of the game is to score as many points as possible by knocking over as many pins as possible over 10 frames. A frame is two bowls at a set of ten pins.If you knock over all ten pins in one bowls it is called a Strike. What this means is that the next two bowls at the pins count as double.
If you knock over all ten pins in two bowls in one frame it is called a spare. What this means is that the next bowl at the pins count as double.
If you put your foot over the line, it is classed as a foul, and you score no points.
Other than that, there's no other rules. Whoever scores the most wins the game!
