What does a TENS unit do?

TENS pain relief units use electrical frequencies to help relieve several types of pain, without drugs or harmful side effects. Over time, they have been shown to actually reverse some pain problems. They've been used for years by medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists and other health professionals.

If you have back pain, shoulder pain, arm and wrist pain, ankle pain, leg pain or neck pain, a TENS unit may help relieve that pain and stress without heavy duty painkillers or over the counter pain medications. If you can avoid taking painkillers, you'll feel better, avoid becoming dependent, and your body won't grow used to the pills, making them ineffective if you really need them later.

How do TENS units work?

With a TENS unit (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation), you are using very low electrical currents to control pain. Electrodes are placed on or near the region where you are feeling pain. Soothing mild electric pulses are sent through the electrodes through the skin and along the nerve fibers. The pulses, which you control at all times, suppress pain signals to the brain.

TENS units also encourage the body to produce higher levels of its own natural pain killing chemicals - Endorphins and Encephalins. TENS can grant a patient welcome short term pain relief or for longer periods of time depending on the person and the injury.

Types of TENS units

This new battery-operated TENS device is used for the relief, control and management of pain. It offers fully adjustable parameters including frequency, pulse, duration, three modulation modes and a timer.

Unit includes everything you need:
  • Dual channel Intellect TENS unit with belt clip
  • Set of lead wires
  • Package of self-adhesive electrodes
  • 9V battery
  • Operations manual
  • Convenient carrying case.

Easy to use in the home or anywhere you would like.

This unit has the following function modes:

B: Cycle Bursts. 2 bursts/sec., 9 pulses/burst, and 100 Hz; width is adjustable.

C: Continuous Mode. Pulse rate, pulse width and intensity are adjustable.

M: Modulated Width. Pulse width is automatically varied in a six-second interval. The modulation range of pulse width is from a setting value to 35% less than the control setting value, then returns to the setting value. Rate, width and intensity are fully adjustable.

SDR: Strength, Duration and Rate Modulation. SDR consists of alternating modulated intensity (amplitude) and pulse rate; meaning that one parameter is always increasing while the other is decreasing, and vice-versa. The stimulation intensity decreases 20% from the intensity control setting and returns to the setting value; while the pulse rate increases 45% from the modulated rate to the setting value, and returns to the modulated rate. Total cycle time is six seconds.

Rate, width and intensity are fully adjustable.

SDW: Strength, Duration and Width Modulation. SDW consists of alternating modulated intensity (amplitude) and pulse width; meaning that one parameter is always increasing while the other is decreasing, and vice-versa.

There is a patient lock system so the controls can't be changed except by the physician. This feature does not have to be used.
