Teresita Naranjo History
Her given Indian name was Bay-Po-Vi which translates to Apple Blossom. She won many awards for her pottery during her lifetime.
Teresita was the daughter of Victor & Christina Naranjo and the granddaughter of Serafina Tafoya.
She actively made pottery between 1935-1999.
Teresita Naranjo Family Stories
Her grandfather (Geronimo Tafoya) used to tell her Avanyu (the Tewa word for waterdragons) bring luck, health, peace, joy and happiness as well as rain and good crops to the Indian people and to all people on the earth.Many of her pottery pieces use Avanyu as the main focal point.
Santa Clara Pottery
Her work was in the Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery exhibition at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, as well as the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.She is in almost all of the Southwestern Native American artist pottery books.
Her pieces have sold for thousands of dollars at RG Munn, Sothebys, and Butterfields auctions.
