Tesla 2009 Roadster is Now in Production

The day has come where electric cars are going to be a reality with Tesla Motors.

The time has come to celebrate a 100% electric car with Tesla Motors.

Cost may be a stumbling block for most Americans. An electric car without a proven record selling for over $89,000 is questionable. But, the specs are impressive.

Is Tesla Motors the next Henry Ford of our era?

I believe that some inventor right now is working in his garage and an alternate fuel source is on the horizon. Dare to dream with me?

Tesla Turns A Profit

Tesla Turns A Corner -- And A Profit - The Car Connection
Tesla Motors -- the flashy electric automaker capable of evoking schadenfreude in even the most enthusiastic EV fan -- met two major milestones in July: the company sold a record number of Tesla Roadsters, and perhaps more importantly, it netted $1 million on $20 million of gross income.
Tesla Roadster keeps on rollin', goes 313 miles on single charge
What could be a better feeling than beating a world record? Beating your own world record. The Tesla Roadster has put an extra exclamation mark on its world-conquering single-charge antics by raising the bar from 241 miles back in April to an even more impressive 313 this week.

Will the Tesla Cars be Affordable?

Tesla Motors: Affordable Electric Cars are Coming : TreeHugger
In a post on Tesla Motors' blog, Elon Musk, the chairman of the company, writes: "Almost any new technology initially has high unit cost before it can be optimized and this is no less true for electric cars. The strategy of Tesla is to enter at the high end of the market [with the roadster], where customers are prepared to pay a premium, and then drive down market as fast as possible [...] Without giving away too much, I can say that the second model [code name: White Star, scheduled for 2008] will be a sporty four door family car at roughly half the $89k price point of the Tesla Roadster and the third model will be even more affordable [...] all free cash flow is plowed back into R&D to drive down the costs and bring the follow on products to market as fast as possible.

Tesla Motors on Wikipedia

Tesla Motors Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based company that engineers and manufactures electric cars (EVs). It is currently the only automaker building and selling highway-capable EVs in serial production (as opposed to prototype or evaluation fleet production) in North America or Europe. In mid-2009, Tesla was producing about 25 cars per week consisting mostly of custom-ordered vehicles manufactured to owners' specifications.

The Tesla Roadster, the company's first vehicle, is the first production automobile to use lithium-ion battery cells and the first production EV with a range greater than per charge. The base model accelerates 0? in 3.9 seconds and, according to Tesla Motor's environmental analysis, is twice as energy-efficient as the Toyota Prius. The company had delivered more than 700 Roadsters to customers in the United States and Europe .

The Tesla Model S, using the company's second all-electric car platform, is a sedan in development . It was announced in a press release on June 30, 2008 and a prototype was unveiled on March 26, 2009. Tesla has taken more than 1,500 reservations for the Model S and expects to begin production in late 2011 for the 2012 model-year. Pricing was announced to start at US$57,400 ($49,900 in the U.S. after a $7,500 federal tax credit). Acceleration is anticipated to be 0? in 5.6 seconds and the base model will have a range of when fully charged. Larger battery pack options will be available with ranges of 230 and 300 miles (370 and 480 km).

The company is named for electrical engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla., who invented the AC induction motor.
