Success Stories from Our Students...

It's Never Too Late To Find Success

Among the crowd at the June 2006 graduation ceremony was the elated family of twenty-something Britnany Hollowell. Being older than most of her classmates at TEXANS CAN!-Carrollton Farmer's Branch did not seem to bother Britnany. Her background holds the story.

Britnany's high school years at public schools in Irving were filled with daily harassment. "I was a special ed student and got picked on all the time, occasionally even beat up. My mom asked that I be switched to a different school, but that didn't help," she said.

Eventually the flight instinct took over and Britnany dropped out of school. She spent three years at odd jobs and tried Job Corp, but she couldn't shake her dream for a better future.

"I'd promised my mother I'd get my diploma," she said. So at age 19, she returned to school at a place that understood her special circumstances - TEXANS CAN!

"I needed a lot of help, including Saturday school and early morning tutoring," Britnany said. "I worked so hard, I even qualified for a free laptop with Sparky's Kids (Sparky's Kids Computers For Kids program)."

The diploma Britnany earned is now the key that's opening a world of opportunities.
