Texas Cichlid

Texas cichlids are a medium sized American that are covered all over in metallic turquoise blotches. The background is usually dark grey but when breeding the Texas takes on a black color behind the spots. When they look like the the Texas cichlid looks simply stunning.

This cichlid is not overly aggressive toward other cichlids. You can keep it with other like minded American cichlids or even some Jewel cichlids from the rivers of Africa.

Feed your Texas with a medium sized cichlid pellet or high protein community food. Water should be kept around neutral and warmed above 24 degrees Celcius.

Breeding is easily achieved. Condition the Texas cichlids on high protein live foods then do a water change and raise the temperature by a degree. The pair of Texas will seek out a flat rock or make a dpression in the gravel. Here several 100 eggs will be layed. They hatch in three days after which time the fry consume their egg sac while attached to the nest by a tiny thread.
