Texas Daisetta Sinkhole, at Liberty County
A massive sinkhole has appeared in Daisetta, Texas. This hole (codename: Texas Sinkhole) has swallowed up oil field equipment, poles and some vehicles since surfacing just outside the southeast Texas community of Daisetta.

The town of Daisetta (Texas) is being partly swallowed up by a huge and very rare sinkhole. Authorities believe that this massive hole grown to an astonish 600 feet wide and 200 feet deep.Daisetta, has a local population of 1,000 people and it's situated 60 miles northeast of Houston.
This massive sinkhole was found when authorities were checking the mainlines for natural gas and oil to make sure that they were ok after they discovered a some leaks a couple of days before.
This massive texas sinkhole may have been the result of a land lying on top of a salt brine where oil and natural gas are naturally store in earth's surface.
Tv News coverage, showed a tractor, some oil fied equipment, telephone poles, all falling into this huge sinkhole as it grew hour after hour.
Farm-to-Market Road 770 was closed to traffic and vehicles were being diverted to FM 834 over concerns the pit could spread to the roadway.
Sinkholes are rare and often take up to two weeks to stabilize, said Geoffrey Paine, a geologist and geophysicist with the University of Texas.

Sinkhole Continues to Grow
A large sinkhole has swallowed up oil field equipment and some vehicles in southeastern Texas and it continues to grow. There are no reports of injuries or home damage. (May 8)

There is also a very large sink hole in Sour Lake TX, just a few miles East of Daisetta. It's been there for many years. Anyone that lives in these oil fields of Texas can tell you about one.
If the salt domes are properly maintained this won't happen.
