I love you, Mom.

My mom is an extra-special mom in that she has pretty much always been my best friend. She's always been there for me, and she never, ever judges or tells me what to do.

She's pretty, she's smart, she's kind and loving and fun. She sings, she dances, she makes me laugh. Together we shop 'til we drop, and then we have a lovely luncheon. We talk every day, and are perfectly happy talking about nothing (or everything). I'm so lucky she's my mom.

How I got my mom

My mom (and dad) didn't have me, they picked me. Childless after seven years of marriage, they adopted me from the Children's Home Society in St. Paul, Minnesota.

I think they were kind of happy to have me, and I was certainly lucky to get them!

We were always laughing.... (and dancing, and singing!)

My mom is really fun - she's a goofball!

The Day My Parents Dropped Me Off at College

I've always been (and to this day am) one of those people that gets homesick. Not just a little bit, but cripplingly homesick. The day my parents dropped me off at college, five and a half hours away from home, was one of the worst of my life.

My parents drove me there, and then drove part way home, and got a hotel room for the night. I ended up calling them at their hotel, and begging them to come back and get me! My mom talked to me for hours that night, and hours many other nights while I was away at school. I'll never, ever forget how patient and understanding she was with me, and how much she helped me during my college years.

Do you know any other mama who would write her child every day that the kid was away in college? I was the only person who always had mail in her mailbox, every single day!

Thanks, Mom. I love you so much!

I stole the idea for this lens!

stealing ideaYes, I blatantly stole the idea for this lens from someone I admire very much, JaguarJulie.

Julie's ode to her mom (below) inspired me to tell about my mama.
