Acknowledging My Mom
I guess I've never thought about just how instrumental my mom was in helping me create the person I am now. Do any of us really think about it that much?
Our moms are usually the ones that do all the teaching and most of the caretaking. This is going to be very important to us when we grow up.
My mom was a divorced, single, mother in the 70s. Not at all common back then. We had to be on Welfare most of the time I was growing up. Not because we wanted to be, but because we had to be. It was different then. My mom had to raise three kids with no support from our father. I won't say she was a "perfect" mother, but she was always there when we needed her, and still is to this day, even though the only one that lives anywhere near her is my little brother. Thanks Mom!

How My Mom Shaped Me
Thanks to mom, I have never been a big drinker. Even though she could've gotten into a lot of trouble for it, my mom let me drink when I was home with her. Her way of thinking was that I was going to drink anyways, so she would prefer that I would do it at home where she knew nothing could happen to me. Okay, maybe not the greatest approach, but I sincerely believe that this is why I don't drink much now. I didn't have to "rebel" with that, so it wasn't worth it to me.
On the bad side, I do have a nicotine habit now, and I'm very afraid of spiders, but those too, are things shaped by her.
I never had to worry what I could and couldn't tell my mom, she was open to everything, and if we needed to talk, she was always there to listen. This helped me be more open to my son as well. I never want my son to think he can't talk to me. Kudos to my mom!
