Music for Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving songs are fun and meaningful. Music adds an air of festivity to our Thanksgiving celebrations and also to our anticipation of the holiday! Is there anything sweeter than a little pre-schooler singing Mr. Turkey, Mr. Turkey?
So gather your recipes, send out your invitations, make your lists, but while you are so busy, sing a little tune of the season - and teach a few to your children too. You might just remember the joy of singing!
Remember -- Sing as if no one is listening!

Did You Ever See a Turkey?
Did You Ever See a Turkey? | Thanksgiving Songs for Children by Cullen's Abc's
Hi there! You can find more Thanksgiving songs and activities for preschoolers, young children and kindergarteners over at http://www.youtube.com/user/CullensAbcs#grid/user/02210EE1B75D8901 Did You Ever See a Turkey is a great song for preschoolers to sing around Thanksgiving time. It features color recognition and number skills, that help in the development of young children. Singing songs with your child is wonderful for many reasons. The most important reason is that singing is fun and children love to sing. Songs are great for increasing vocabulary and pronunciation. Using hand and body movements with songs and rhymes helps preschoolers learn to control their bodies. There is even research that has shown that children who are actively involved in music do better in reading and math when they start school, are better able to focus and control their bodies, play better with others and have higher self-esteem. So sing a song now!

We Gather Together and For the Beauty of the Earth
Thanksgiving Medley
Thanksgiving Medley We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing; He chastens and hastens His will to make known; The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing, Sing praises to His name; He forgets not His own. Beside us to guide us, Our God with us joining, Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom devine; So from the beginning The fight we were winning; Thou, Lord, wast at our side; All glory be Thine! For the beauty of the earth, For the glory of the skies, For the Love which from our birth Over and around us lies, Lord of all, to Thee we raise This our hymn of grateful praise. Come, ye thankful people come, Raise the song of harvest home! All is safely gathered in, Ere the winter storms begin; God, our Maker, doth provide For our wants to be supplied; Come to God's own temple, come; Raise the song of harvest home! We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant, And pray that Thou still our Defender wilt be. Let Thy congregation Escape tribulation; Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free! Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

Chorus as sung in solo above
Come, ye thankful people, come,raise the song of harvest home;
all is safely gathered in,

More Turkey Songs

There are many versions of this one, but the first time I heard my little grandchildren sing it, I knew it would be a favorite!
Mr. Turkey
(Sung to Are You Sleeping)
Mr. Turkey, Mr. Turkey
Big and fat, big and fat
I am going to eat you
I am going to eat you
Just like that.
Just like that.
Albuquerque, he's my turkey- Anonymous
(Sung to the tune of 'Clementine')
Albuquerque he's my turkey
Oh he's feathered and he's fine
He wobbles and he gobbles
And I'm awfully glad he's mine.
He's the best pet
You could ever get.
Better than a dog or cat.
Albuquerque he's my turkey
And I'm awfully glad of that.
Albuquerque he's my turkey
He's so cozy in his bed
Because for Thanksgiving dinner
We had scrambled eggs instead.

I'm Glad I'm Not a Turkey
Sing to tune of "Did you ever see a Lassie go this way and that?"
Our grandson came home from school singing this one today!I'm glad I'm not a turkey, a turkey, a turkey
I'm glad I'm not a turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
They'll cook you and baste you
And then they'll all taste you!
I'm glad I'm not a turkey on Thanksgiving Day!

Wonderful World
There are so many things in this song to remind us to be thankful. I just had to include it!
What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
Impressive. One of this video watcher a "live book" about Armstrong. His message: ------------------------------------- Hi David, Sorry for taking so long to reply. I'm not on that video nor was I there. I'm a life-long Louis Armstrong nut so I know when he did everything. There are two books that I get my information about videos from, "All Of Me-The Complete Discography of Louis Armstrong" by Jos Willems & "Louis Armstrong On The Screen" by Dr. Klaus Stratemann. The Louis clip you posted is from the first of two BBC-TV shows. Each show was 45 minutes & they were taped on the same day, July 2, 1968. Aside from Louis the rest of the band is Tyree Glenn-trombone, Joe Muranyi-clarinet, Marty Napoleon-piano, Buddy Catlett-bass & Danny Barcelona-drums. Louis died three years later, on July 6, 1971. He was only on the road full time for another two months after this clip. By mid September of 1968 he was seriously ill in the hospital & was out of commisiion for most of 1969. I hope that's enough information for you. Best wishes, Phil ------------------------------ Phil, I am very been thankful by the information. Thank you so much. - My most favorite holiday of all. Joan, your star is really shining bright with this lens. Everything about is is so perfect. My favorite parts are the "I Will Survive" turkey...love that song. It is so much fun! And then you had the perfect ending with "Grace for Thanksgiving Day" by Alice Kennelly Roberts. The songs brought back such sweet memories of my grandmother. Thanks for creating this lens that we can revisit whenever we feel like it.

Grace for Thanksgiving Day - Another Tate Family Tradition
George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation
Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.
G. Washington
( First official presidential proclamation issued in the United States. )
