Kid Friendly Batik

Using Elmer's School Glue Washable Gel To Do Batik

Batik is one of the most creative things you can do with plain fabric.

Unfortunately hot wax and little kids don't always mix well. Not to mention having to iron out that wax with lots of paper.

As an art teacher I needed a kid friendly way to do Batik. I had tried the white glue method as well as the white glue and flour paste method. In both cases I was left with a mess. The glue would not wash out of the fabric or it would tear.

The washable school gel solves these problems, but you need to paint your fabric with diluted acrylic paint rather than using fabric dye.

By using the Blue Glue method kids can produce fantastic art on fabric which can then be transformed into any number of things or just appreciated as is.

For a full picture tutorial on how to use this method scroll down to the Batik Tutorials Link List. The first tutorial listed will get you started.
