All About The Academy Is...
The Academy Is... first formed as a band in Illinois back in 2003. The band is a part of the whole Chicago pop punk scene (which also includes Fall Out Boy) and to date three studio albums have been released. 'Almost Here' was the first album to be released back in 2005, 'Santi' followed in 2007, and then 'Fast Times at Barrington High' was released in the August of 2008. In five years the band has now put to record three studio albums; not a bad record by anyone's standards and definite proof that The Academy Is... is a band that is willing to work for its success.When 'Almost Here' was released back in 2005; The Academy Is... was a relatively unknown band, few had heard of them but those that had were really very loyal to them. The album was really quite a success and in total three singles were released. The reason the band gained so much in popularity with the release of its first album is really quite simple; the first album is exceptional and this therefore instantly made The Academy Is... an instant success in the pop punk scene. It consists of ten terrific tracks and you won't find far finer a pop punk album than 'Almost Here'; that's for sure.
It was then in April 2007 that the band would release its second album; the band's sophomore slump. Band's can often be quite cursed when it comes to second albums, this certainly seems to be true of 'Santi', and although it spawned another couple of singles; it also received quite a number of negative reviews. Not a very good return for the band, and after the excellence of the first album everyone had just expected the band to provide a little more here.
With the release of 'Fast Times at Barrington High' in 2008; the band marked the release of its third studio album on the Fueled By Ramen record label; quite an occasion really and the band had therefore released three studio albums in the space of three and a half years. This makes The Academy Is... quite prolific a recording artist really, and who knows just what the future may hold for the band now.
The Academy Is... has gone on a number of tours throughout the world now with the likes of Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, and Cobra Starship. The band has been in existence for over five years now and as a constantly touring band; The Academy Is... will surely be looking to make many more fans throughout their career yet. It's been an interesting ride for the band thus far; quite a rollercoaster really, and as the future unfolds who knows whether or not the band will continue to ride that rollercoaster or finally find a more steady existence.

When 'Almost Here' was released it instantly became one of my all time favourite pop punk albums. It's only half an hour long and within the first month or so I literally played it hundreds of times. I loved it, and I still do in fact; it's an absolutely magnificent album and you won't find many greater out there than this. All ten of the album's tracks are excellent, never for a second does the music disappoint and always here the music has you humming along at all times. It's a great album to bounce around to; it's upbeat, energetic, and always a lot of fun.
'Attention' is the track which kicks it all off; instantly the music makes an impression and from the very first line of the very first track the album has you completely hooked. Never does it let you go either; from start to finish the music is fantastic and each and every one of these ten tracks is simply sensational. The Academy Is... has so much to offer as a band with this debut album, it's a really quite stunning overall construction of music and as far as debut albums go then you won't find much finer than this one.
Every time I listen to the album I listen to it from start to finish; I reckon in total I've probably listened to it around 400 times too so I definitely got my money's worth out of this one! The lyrics stick in your mind for months, the choruses are adorable, and every quality of the band's sound is just completely awe-inspiring. This is a sensational album of music; one of the greatest pop punk albums of all time and one which all should most definitely invest in.
If you're not already familiar with the music of The Academy Is... then I can tell you right now that you're going to love them; if you like pop punk then there's no way you won't like 'Almost Here'. This is a truly great album, a fantastic first album, and one which kind of set the band up for quite a big fall with album number two; how could they ever top the incredible quality of 'Almost Here'.

When The Academy Is... released 'Santi' in 2007 I wasn't expecting it to be as good as 'Almost Here'; if it was even half as good as 'Almost Here' though I was going to be impressed. The problem here though is that 'Santi' isn't even a tenth as good as 'Almost Here'; it's a terrible album, and after the excellence of 'Almost Here' I had really been expecting a lot more from the band here.
'Almost Here' showed what an incredibly talented band The Academy Is... truly is; all 'Santi' proved however is that The Academy Is... only had ten tracks in them before they ran out of ideas and their music became dreadful. 'Santi' is quite possibly one of the worst second albums of all time; it truly is dreadful and I know a lot of fans of the first album that feel the exact same way about the second one as I do. There's no escaping the badness of 'Santi'; a couple of tracks are tolerable, on the whole however the album is just one great giant disappointment.
After this album I really thought this would be the end of The Academy Is...; after released an album as bad as this I just saw no way back for the band and was therefore preparing for the band's split. The split never came though, and a third studio album was in fact released in August 2008. I've heard some pretty good things about it and read some pretty terrible reviews too; I'm yet to listen to the album but I believe there may well be a possibility that the band has turned it around again with album number three.
If you're looking to listen to the music of The Academy Is... then my best advice is to listen to 'Almost Here'; 'Santi' is terrible, 'Almost Here' however is absolutely sensational. All ten tracks of 'Almost Here' are well worth listening to; it's by far the greater of the two albums and whilst 'Almost Here' is one that all should own, 'Santi' on the other hand is an album for all to avoid.
