The iPhone: A Revolutionary Platform
The iPhone is a revolutionary platform. It gives independent software developers the ability to create and distribute apps to iphone and ipod touch (or itouch as some people call it) The developers have taken this opportunity and flown with it. Just recently the 1 billionth app was downloaded, this was only within 6 months of the app store opening.
The variety of apps range from finance, to games, to utilities like a compass. In this lens I will outline the best of the best apps, and the best apps in each category.

The Cream of The Crop
The Overall Best
1. TweetieOne of the best Twitter clients, one of the best apps. Has searching, trends, favorites and more all in a polished interface. Tweetie recently won the Apple Developer Award, a huge honor.
2. Pandora
The free, online radio that you create on your iPhone. What could be better? Simple and easy to use.
3. Ocarina
Literally turns your iPhone into a musical instrument. Has a huge online collection of actual music to play with it. The sound varies according to your breath level, as well as the orientation of the device. No iPod touches on this one, though. Ocarina requires a microphone.
4. Things
Things, the elegant task manager for the Mac comes to the iPhone. Not much more I can say, go and check it out!

Hit The Ground Running With These Books
The iPhone is for Gamers
A huge selection awaits, but here are some of the best....
1. Flight ControlTake control of 3 different air fields in Flight Control. You are given one task, one simple, devious task. Land the planes. Now of course that sounds simple, but oh you are so wrong. As the planes speed up, and the volume increases, the game becomes wickedly difficult. Gameplay consists of touching an airplane, and then dragging its path.
2. Zen Bound
A simple game. A dense block of wood and a piece of string. One goal, completely surround that wood with the string. Very fun and relaxing, but also can be challenging.
3. Sway
Take control of a little creature who's arms you control. The screen is invisibly partitioned into two sides, left and right. Each side control its respective arm. Sway them back and forth, gain momentum and you are off into the broken, obstacle filled world.
4. Up There
A little red balloon who's only whim is to take to the skies. Tilt you device back and forth to help the balloon avoid obstacles as it makes its never ending journey. Customize the balloon with 10 different styles. Simple, addictive.
5. Frenzic
From the wonderful IconFactory. Watch as the multi-colored pie pieces are doled out, and put them in one of 8 pies. The less colors in the pie, the more points you score. But wait, the pieces don't always fit >: ).

The iPod touch is a great device, I'm using one currently. They can every app on the app store, with a few exceptions for the ones that require a microphone.

- We bought an iTouch for our round the world trip and have been loving it so far. You've given me some ideas on more apps that I might have to look into.

Twitter Addicts, Get Your Fix On The Go!

- Tweetie Tweetie is currently the most popular Twitter app on the app store, and with good reason. Tweetie is robust, yet maintains a certain elegance that want in an app. You can view entire profiles in Tweetie, as well as follow and un-follow. Tweetie costs $2.99 and doesn't have a demo version.
- Twitterific Twitterific is from the wonderful Iconfactory. Known for their excellence in design. They do not disappoint with Twitterific. It takes a different interface approach than other apps. follower tweets, direct messages, and mentions are all merged into one single timeline. Twitterific runs for $3.99, a free version is available with ads. This is my current Twitter app of choice. I recently switched from Tweetie.
- Twitterfon Pro Twitterfon Pro markets itself as "the ideal Twitter app for the serious or advanced Twitter user." It does have a couple features that make a worthwhile to check out. Twitterfon can automatically refresh tweets at set intervals. It can also show a badge on the home-screen with the number of unread tweets. Twitterfon Pro costs $4.99. There is a free version, but with less features.
- Twittelator Pro Yet another Twitter client, but this one is packing some unique features! With the new iPhone 3G S out, of course video tweeting needs to be available, and now it is with Twittelator. You can also tweet audio clips. $4.99
- Twitterena Not much to say about this one. Nothing much unique, but something less mainstream if that's what you like. Costs $0.99
