Is Personal Development Important? Why is it Important that We Grow? How Do We Do It?

Without a doubt!

The person who fails to grow is a person who fails to live.

A person who does not live has little to give.
Part of the life cycle is all about growing.
None of us are born all knowing.
Perfection is an illusion; that is fact;
There will always be room for improvement...
but in universal abundance there's no need for lack
Strive to be a better person than you were the day before -
You'll find plenty to do, and you'll ask for more.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you are trudging seems all uphill,
When funds are low and debts are high,
And you want to smile, but have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer, with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns.
And many a fellow turns about,
When he might've won, had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man.
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup.
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

Do what You Must, Even When You Think You Can't

Forever and Always...That is the secret to succeeding at anything. Remember the story, 'The Little Engine That Could'? "I think I can..."

When presented with a task, any task, except of course things like brain surgery, crank up the confidence. Go with it and tell yourself, 'I Can Do This...' Change the problem into a challenge and tackle it with enthusiasm. Pump yourself up with "I CAN DO THIS!" Stop the fear of failure in its tracks.

Recently, I have experienced the power of that little statement; I have taken on tasks that I had never done before and talked myself through them quite successfully. Whenever I am given a task, by my husband, to help the progress of building our house, I step into it without a clue, most of the time. 'I can Do This' gets me through it. I am a writer, not a carpenter. I was asked to help pour concrete! I did it too. I didn't know how, but I helped.

I didn't really enjoy pouring concrete, but I did enjoy learning how it is done and the fact that I contributed to the building of my house.

It is all about problem solving and learning, and the confidence that you can do those things - solve a problem and learn. If you look at each challenge as a learning opportunity, the whole experience can transform from a challenge to a positive experience. The problem moves to a challenge to a positive experience.

I went through this experience very recently in the penning of my manuscript. I knew the story I wanted to tell, because I'd lived it, I had many people tell me that I am a talented writer, but I lacked the confidence to do the job. I made excuses for years as to why I wasn't writing this book. Then, one day I set down the book I was reading (Write It Down, Make It Happen)and picked up paper and pen. I started with the title, a quick, 'I CAN DO THIS' and the words just spilled from me; 58,000 of them!

Out of frustration, looking for an agent, I returned to the mantra and published it myself. Now my husband wants to see me write another. I have returned to the mantra again, and have gotten about half way through a piece of fiction that has been too much fun to write. I can do this and you can too.

I used to believe that my lack of education was holding me back from a great many things, but then I realized that there were lessons to be learned in every situation; an education, if you will. I was not giving myself credit for intelligence and capacity. Then I realized that I may not have been schooled in institutions of learning, but I had the best hands-on-training there is - LIFE. Each and every situation in my life was an experience that I took something from and because of my intelligence, I grew with it. I finally understood that I did not need a college education to write a book. My story is not about a college education, but rather about the lack of one and how it was not necessary for me to live the life I now live - happily ever-after. I am an ordinary person who has led an extraordinary life. That's all I needed to be able to write.

I CAN DO THIS! Say it; apply it; do it.

"Everything is right and perfect in every moment."

"Everything is right and perfect in every moment."

Whether or not we understand why things are the way they are, is not important, that we accept that it is and that it is perfect, is what is important.

I used to think, 'How could this negative thing be right and perfect for this moment?' Then it occurred to me that if I turn the negative to a positive, in any way, the perfection is revealed to me. If I don't have a lot of money, I learn to be more thrifty. To learn from each challenged I am faced with is the positive of the situation. So, rather than asking myself, 'Why me?' I ask, 'What is there to learn from this? How can I turn this around?'

Our thought process is where our reality comes from. Here is a very personal example: My doubt in my partner almost cost me the one thing I cherished most... my marriage. I spent so much time directing my thoughts toward whether or not he really loved me, that he also began to doubt it. He almost left me.

Immediately, I refused to let my mind hold onto these thoughts and replaced them with thoughts of how much I love him, and we sat down and worked things out. The positive of that very negative situation was that it inspired greater communication and our relationship remained in tact, in fact, it grew stronger. The doubt disappeared and was replace with confidence.

I brought my own misery to me and I released it as well. I allowed my own lack of confidence to take over and doubt my husband's feelings for me. Once I changed my thinking, I changed the problem from being a problem to not existing in my world. My world was perfect the whole time, because I needed to learn from the negative situation that my own thoughts had created. I needed to learn that my thoughts create my reality. I learned it; boy did I ever. Now I control my thoughts and drive them in a positive direction.

Here is another example: I created the domestic abuse I suffered through two marriages. I allowed myself to be convinced by my first partner, that I had no worth. I left that marriage thinking of my small child, not myself, for I had no self-worth. Continuing to think that I was worthless, I drew to me my second abusive marriage. Once I changed the way I thought about myself, I changed my life. I left the second marriage, was reunited with my true love and have been happy ever since. I learned that I have value. The negative situation became positive. I took control of my thoughts and my life.

Which brings me back to the first example... I had not yet learned that my own thoughts control the direction of my life to the point of affecting other people. I fell back into the trap of self-doubt and got a negative result, at first. Then when I had truly learned the lesson of shaping my future with my present thoughts, it became positive.

I have learned that I must choose to be happy, and I have made that choice. I am happy because I choose to be and I am grateful for all that I have; that is my mantra.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, "A man is what he thinks about, all day long." I belive that is true. I have experienced it, learned from it and now revel in it. I am powerful. (Just ask my kids.)

"Everything is right and perfect in every moment."

What are you going to choose to think about?

If I Can Do It, You Can Too!

Forever and Always...A few years ago, I watched the movie, 'The Secret,' for the first time. I was drawn to the message in a powerful way. I could instantly see how the Law of Attraction had worked in my own life, and how I was responsible for the direction my life had taken. Before then I was in the habit of blaming others for the misfortune in my life, but like being hit by a brick, I could see that my thought process had been responsible for everything.

As a teen, I fell head over heels in love with a boy I'd met by chance, and could not forget him. Rather than trying to put him out of my mind, I fantasized about being with him, and dreamed that he would one day return to me.

After 17 long years and many trials, he did come back to me. I never gave up on my love for him and it paid off in spades. He and I have been happily married for 13 years now.

Ours is an amazing story, so I wrote a book about us. Forever and Always... A True Love Story, is my memoir and testament to the power of belief and the Law of Attraction.

Mine is a story of love, life, and determination to rise above the challenges I faced. My life has been interesting, to say the least, and my story contains the message that each of us has the power with in ourselves to change the course our ship sails.

The fact that I was able to write this book is the Law of Attraction in action. I have always dreamed of writing this book, and when I put myself to the task, it came. Now I would be honored to share it with you.

Good folks post a forum and nobody notices.

Many of you will remember our old friend Trina.

Trina has been off writing her life/love story, she came here to tell us about it recently.

Result: I bought a copy (even here in the UK), what's more I read it.

No, love stories aren't just for the girls.

Trina's life has been sooooo different to my settled family upbringing and a little more recent however I found the book moving and a glimpse of a much tougher world.

Her book is called Forever and Always. It shows me, and hopefully you, that we all have a story to tell.

I thought I knew Trina. Wrong.

Trina is a strong and determined lady who has used her life to act upon her experiences.

Why am I telling you all of this?

I have always been interested in what makes people tick. Anyone who knows me, knows this about me. I once seriously considered going to college to study psychology, but life got in the way, and I got married instead. The irony of it is that had I gone to school, I wouldn't have married the man I did because of the man he is. In other words, I would not have had to learn the hard way, that he was not the right person for me. I probably could have figured it out a lot quicker than I did.

Naturally, when the movie, 'The Secret' came out, I was curious. I watched the short version and then bought the DVD. I've watched it more than 20 times and I get something new each time.

By the time I had finished watching the movie, I was completely aware of how the Law of Attraction had steered my own life. I saw that I needed to and could take responsibility for the course my ship had sailed. It was liberating. I was through blaming and had begun to accept.

Over time I had learned to be grateful for each and everything that had transpired in my life, even the bad stuff, because all of those things have shaped who I am today. Everything that had ever happened to me served a purpose; I could drive that purpose rather than be driven by it.

I have manifested all things I have experienced in life. I didn't manifest them all on purpose; most of the time I was totally unaware of what I was doing. I hadn't learned yet, what I was doing, that I was doing anything at all, much less how to control it. I even manifested the marriage I have been in for the last 13 years, and I did it 17 years prior to it happening. The moment I laid eyes on my husband for the first time, way back in 1979, I knew that one day I would marry him and have his children. (I was 13 years old!)Seventeen years later it happened.

I am grateful for all that I have learned and will continue to learn in this life. I even have a note tacked to my office wall that says: 'I am happy because I choose to be and I am grateful for all I have.' Whenever a negative thought strikes me, I push it away by reading that. It really works for me.

Some might wonder why I would be grateful for the bad stuff (experiences and people), but the way I see it is this: I took something away from each and every experience I've had and people that I have known. Having learned something from them keeps it from being a total loss. For example, my first marriage was horrible, but I learned that I didn't deserve to be treated that way; nor would I have had the beautiful son I have. It's my way of turning a negative into a positive, and taking responsibility for the things that took place in my life was important too. The things I went through happened to me because I didn't think I deserved any better. I drew them to me. I attracted the people who would treat me the way I thought I deserved to be treated. It doesn't matter why I thought that way; what matters is that I thought that way and it was bringing me misery. Once I changed my thinking, I changed my life. I wouldn't trade my life or the happiness I now have for all of the money in the world.

Having said all of that, I am still interested in why people do the things they do, but now I have begun to focus on why I do the things I do. I'll never understand people who cause harm to another. All I can come up with is that their brains are broken. They just don't work.

I have been on a journey of self discovery that has been quite a trip. I'm not even close to the end of the road, and I can't wait to see what is in store for me along the way. I am excited about the future, because the now is so grand. I strive to be a better person today than I was yesterday. I honestly like who I am.

No matter how bad things may seem at times, I know that everything will work out as it should. Having a positive attitude is critical to generating a positive vibration. If you're not generating a positive vibration, you will attract the negative to you. Never live in the past. It is over, and cannot be changed. If you are concerned for the future, you must live in and appreciate the now. The now determines the future. The past only affects the future, if you choose to live there (in the past). Learn from the past, but then, for cryin' out loud, move on. The past can't be changed, so why spend too much time on it?

Live in the now; be grateful for the now, and have faith that the days will continue to get better and better. The key is belief. If you don't believe, then you will not achieve.

The journey of self-discovery is not one that has to be made alone. On the contrary, I strongly suggest studying with others and to receive, even seek out, mentoring from others who have been on the journey themselves, for a long time.

Who most inspires me? Mr. Bob Proctor, that's who. As I listen to him speak, the things he says resonate with me very strongly. The man knows what he's talking about. He inspires me to be all that I am. He inspires me to reach for my dreams and to be grateful for them even before they are manifested. He is one person I would truly love to meet.

I will admit that I am a knowledge junkie. Ever since the first time that I read, 'The Science of Getting Rich,' by Wallace D. Wattles, I just can't seem to get enough information. If you were to see my hard drive, you'd laugh. I've probably downloaded more information on personal development than anything else. It's a good thing that I like to read.

By the end of this piece, I will recommend my personal favorites. I actually have quite a few. Why so many? Because I don't think that any one teacher has all of the answers. I soak up as much information as I can and keep the stuff that resonates with me, shelving the rest.

Do I think I know it all? Not by a long shot, but I am learning. Oh boy, am I learning. The most important thing I have learned is this: No matter what standards anyone else may hold, I am successful. I have so much to be grateful for and most of them are things that money cannot buy.

The power of the mind amazes me more and more, with each new thing that I learn about it. If only we humans could tap into the total power we have with in our minds, we could move mountains, literally. So much of our brain power sits dormant and unused.

I am a strong believer in the power of hypnosis, meditation and holo sync therapy. The latter uses sound waves to create changes is brain waves. I want to know how the mind works so that I can use mine to its fullest potential.
