What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol has been shown to increase the risk of heart disease and strokes.

It’s a waxy substance that travels through the blood, helping the body and keeping our arteries clear, but there is a good and bad cholesterol.

This book “The Cholesterol Solution Guide“ will tell you more about what cholesterol is, so that you are aware of the need to reduce your Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), bad cholesterol levels and increase the High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), or good cholesterol levels.

As we age it is very important to keep our bodies healthy that means staying as low as possible in LDL Cholesterol the level of 5.5 or below is recommended for an adult.

So this is a ideal book to invest a little money and time to read it to fully understand how this works, it tells you about, home remedies to use, food like a plate of cooked oatmeal porridge with a banana, blueberries, avocado, sliced apple or some other fruit even grapefruit.

For lunch try some fish, like salmon or tuna, my husband likes eating tinned sardines, but be wary of the smell ( I don’t like that smell on his breath).

So many things are explained in this book, that I didn’t know, and I have been struggling with meals for my husband for many years now, trying to combat that high cholesterol levee, I certainly will be apply some of this very helpful info.

    Sadly my GP told me my cholesterol is a bit high. So now I am confused. I eat very well and drink green juice every day! The only thing that I have not done is kept up my walking routine - life just gets in the way. I have spent way too much time working at my computer - so this is it. From now I I wlak everyday for at least 1 hour! 10,000 steps each day! Wish me luck. I'll need this book too if the walking doesn't work.

    Sorry to hear that, hope your walking exercise will help your Cholesterol levels to come down. I do wish you luck, but we do spend too much time in front of our computers, I make sure that I walk everyday, no matter what the weather is, actually it is quiet nice walking in the rain.     Diet is my approach. I cut down on foods rich in cholesterol. I wish I'd do more exercising, but it's in my plans.

    Yes most of it is to do with diet but in some cases it isn't. As you said exercising is very important. All the best for your plans, it's easier said than done in these very busy times.

    I am very lucky that cholesterol has never been an issue for me. I do not eat a lot of meat so my levels tend to stay low. My husband however is another issue and we really work diligently to keep his cholesterol low with oatmeal, walnuts, low fat milk, and zero trans fats.

    Yes exercise is a perfect way to help keep cholesterol levels down, but not in all cases, but it works for those that don't have a problem, like you and me.

    Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables and reducing unnecessary fats. Exercise. My problem is sticking to a regime over the long haul.

    My husbands family all suffer from high cholestrol and no drugs help them at all, neither does diet. It seems to be hereditary. But we do whatever we can to keep our meals healthy and not compound the problem. Thanks for a great review!

    Yes I agree with you no matter what we do, nothing seem to help, I do think it is a hereditary problem and as you say eat healthy, every little bit helps. Glad you like the review, I am very passionate about this high cholesterol, there must be a answer somewhere to this problem.

    I have found that walking 20 minutes first thing in the morning and last thing at night has helped with my cholesterol. Also found oatmeal to be a good too.

    I eat oatmeal (uncooked) with bananas, raisins and sliced almonds, topped with none fat yogurt and soy milk. Unfortunately I have a hard time controlling the cholesterol numbers because mine is caused by the thyroid medication...it's a no win situation.

    Yes it's very sad when you are trying your best too keep the levels down low and it's still a big effort in life to control it. My husband doesn't have the problem you have, his thyroids are fine, but I would like to find a reason for his before it's too late.

    We eat less carbs and exercise without watching dietary cholesterol that much. Having read The Great Cholesterol Myth by Jonny Bowden, I don't believe it is as simple as HDL and LDL to assess the risk.,My husband asked for the more comprehensive testing,(multiple tests) which the doctor did do, and everything came back fine. Some of the effects of cholesterol lowering drugs are very harsh, so it's very worth taking a more complete look.

    Yes I agree with you, my husband is on two pills for high cholesterol, and it's only holding his cholesterol at a stable level but is still too high, we eat the same foods and mine is normal. It is something that needs more study in it. Maybe with tests they could pick it up at a earlier stage of life even at birth.

    I think I need to read this book. My husband's cholesterol is on the edge and we (I) could be better about trying to control it, though overall we eat a pretty healthful diet. I appreciate the tips and your very helpful review!

    Sounds like a very interesting book, Kiwinana! I take meds for mine, but would like to eat healthy instead. If only baking desserts didn't interfere...sigh. This book is going on my wish list. The more you know the better, I think!
